I have toiled over the topic for this next piece
for about two weeks…pardon the absence. I wish I had some magic
words of wisdom other than what I have talked about but let me
let you in on my personal story for the past few weeks. I have
spent a lot of time in my search for a position. I have collated
packages to mail and spent a lot of money and time on sending to
all of the teams I felt might be in the market for a
representative for either sponsor or driver representative in a
public relations field. I have shown my dedication and done all
of what I think are the right moves to obtain a position. I felt
that my experience with an agency for two years and five years
at a media outlet in a development position would enhance my
opportunities. Not so much. I fight the same things everyone
does in seeking a position within the NASCAR industry. It is a
good old boys network. It takes friends and some inside
information. I have both but I continue to look. I even had one
unnamed team send back my information. Wow. That was
interesting. It is still a challenge every single day. Like I
said in my initial article if you cannot take the agony of
defeat over and over then this field is not for you. I pick
myself back up and charge ahead to whomever will listen. The
hiring season is short in NASCAR so make ever minute count. I
have to say having been around the industry for the past six
months it can be very frustrating but it has made my resolve
much more intense. I am one of the lucky ones…I have the shops
all just around the corner because my husband believed in me so
much that he accepted a position here in North Carolina. I got
the chance to be close to what I love. I have taken my heart and
laid it on the line and let me say it has been hard to do at
times but well worth the battle. I must admit I get frustrated
but keep my hopes focused on my future. When someone asks me
what I want for Christmas my answer is simple "I want to work in
the industry I love" so Santa, bring me a NASCAR job. Good luck
