TeamSLR, Scott Lagasse Jr., Hybridlight, and the Boy Scouts of America Team Up in NASCAR Nationwide Series

Lagasse will pilot the No. 8 Hybridlight/BSA Chevrolet in three NASCAR Nationwide Series races this season

ST. AUGUSTINE, Florida (Sept. 20, 2012) – TeamSLR and Scott Lagasse Jr. announced today that the team is expanding its current race program to the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) and will be joining with Hybridlight and the Boy Scouts of America (BSA). Hybridlight, the BSA, and TeamSLR have signed a long-term agreement to develop a strategic relationship using motorsports as the platform and will participate in three NNS races during the 2012 season. Lagasse will make the team’s debut in the No. 8 Hybridlight/BSA Chevrolet this weekend at Kentucky Speedway. He will also compete at Kansas Speedway Oct. 20 and Homestead-Miami Speedway Nov. 17. The team will expand to a minimum of 15 NNS races in 2013.

Hybridlight, a subsidiary of Peterson Industries, offers many products, including solar flashlights. Hybridlight’s patented technology makes its products always ready to work without a concern for dead batteries. The products use revolutionary energy technology that generates power from any light source and stores it. When fully charged the Hybrid Solar FlashlightTM can hold a charge for years. It’s durable, environmentally friendly, and guaranteed for life. The Hybridlight family of products offers cost savings while providing light when and where you need it.

“Hybridlight is honored to be associated with TeamSLR, Scott Lagasse Jr., and the BSA,” said Terry Peterson, Peterson Industries CEO. “We salute the BSA for their role in providing the skills and experiences that lead to producing our next generation of great young men. Scotty is the perfect spokesperson to promote our products and our brand.”

The BSA is one of the nation’s largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. This weekend will mark the BSA’s debut in NASCAR.

“The Boy Scouts of America is extremely excited about our relationship with TeamSLR and driver Scott ‘Scotty’ Lagasse Jr.,” explained Craig Shelley, Director of Development and Corporate Alliances of the BSA. “Scotty is a terrific role model, and we see tremendous value in partnering with him. Scotty exemplifies what young men should strive to achieve: be well educated, have integrity, and be passionate about their goals. The excitement and high-tech nature of NASCAR is a perfect platform to promote science, technology, engineering, and math to those involved in scouting and is in line with the BSA’s strategic vision. Our relationship with Scotty allows us to bring this vision to life.”

Lagasse has been racing since age 7. He won in motocross, Karts, Modifieds, Late Models, ASA, and the ARCA Racing Series. He made his NNS debut in 2005 with Fitz Bradshaw Racing and competed in 41 events in his career. The St. Augustine, Fla., native scored five top-10 and 12 top-15 finishes and eight top-10 starts in NNS competition.

TeamSLR is the creation of Lagasse as he continues to grow his family-run race team into the upper levels of NASCAR. The team competes regularly and wins consistently in dirt and asphalt races in the southeastern U.S. Team SLR includes a successful driver development program and will expand to NNS competition beginning at Kentucky Speedway this weekend.

“The Nationwide Series program has taken a couple of years to develop and a lot of time and effort from many,” commented Lagasse. “I feel blessed and very fortunate to have so many people around the sport continue to believe in me and this dream. It’s truly an honor to have the Boy Scouts of America, one of the world’s premier youth organizations, as a marketing partner with Hybridlight and our team. I am anxious to begin the on-track part of our growth.”

Lagasse will make TeamSLR’s NNS debut Saturday, Sept. 22 in the Kentucky 300 at Kentucky Speedway. Tune into ESPN2 at 4 p.m. EST for coverage.

About Hybridlight: Peterson Industries, based in St. George, Utah, is the home of the Hybridlight product line, consisting of the Hybrid Flashlights, the Hybrid Spotlight, and the unique Camping Light. Founders Terry and Stephanie Peterson had been running a family business since 1981, and after following his instincts and fascination with portable lighting products, Terry began working on his vision for solar flashlights. He knew that in order to produce a flashlight that would always be ready to work without a concern for dead batteries, what was missing was hybrid technology.

In 2003, Peterson officially launched the Hybridlight with two flashlight models: the 40 Lumen (HL40) and 120 Lumen (HL120) models. At the moment, Hybridlight has an additional two products with several more in the final stages of design. Current versions are available worldwide in hundreds of name brand and specialty stores, as well as with online retailers who are environmentally responsible.

What keeps Hybridlight at the top of mind awareness for the trade and consumer alike is that: “It works so well!” For more information, visit hybridlight.com.
