Bayne Leads Roush Fenway with 2nd-Place Finish at Monster Mile

DOVER, Del. (May 31, 2014) – Roush Fenway Racing’s Trevor Bayne turned in a strong runner-up finish in Saturday’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Dover International Speedway. Bayne got a quick jump on a late-race restart to move his No. 6 AdvoCare Ford Mustang from fourth to second with just under 50 laps to go in the race, and was able to hold on for his best finish of the season.

“You had to treat these restarts like a green-white-checkered finish every time out there,” said Bayne. “It’s hard to be that close, but I’m so proud of this AdvoCare team; we are not giving up. (Crew chief) Chad (Norris) and the guys made great adjustments on the car and we keep getting better each week.”

Roush Fenway rookie Chris Buescher turned in a solid 11th-place run in his ‘Monster Mile’ debut, including an impressive save early on.

“It was intense to say the least,” said Buescher. “It was a very wild save. We were inches away for the inside wall and I am just glad we could save it.

“We are making progress and we are staying consistent,” added Buescher. “We survived our first Nationwide race at the ‘Monster Mile.’ We are coming together really well and starting to really establish a base that works for me. We are working really hard at Roush Fenway Racing and we are going to get these cars where we can go win some races.”

Fellow rookie Ryan Reed ran inside the top 14 for the majority of his Dover debut as well, but finished 27th after getting involved in a late accident.

The finish marked Roush Fenway’s seventh runner-up finish in the NASCAR Nationwide Series at Dover. The team has five wins in NNS action at the ‘Monster Mile.’

Bayne, who boasts 10 top-10 finishes in 12 starts this season, leaves Dover fourth in the NNS point standings; 27 markers out of first. Buescher is ninth – despite missing the Daytona race – and Reed is 12th.

The NNS takes off next weekend, before returning to action at Michigan International Speedway (MIS). Roush Fenway has won five times in the NNS at MIS.
