Ty Dillon Looks to Gain Points on Buescher at Kentucky

With only seven races left on the 2015 schedule for the NASCAR XFINITY Series, Ty Dillon enters this weekend sitting second in points, 25 points behind Chris Buescher. It goes without saying that the driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing would like to start gaining points on the Roush Fenway Racing driver as we start to close out the season.

With that in mind, the main focus for this win for Dillon is simple – lead as many laps as possible and score the victory

“Everybody on this team is working hard and we really wants this one this weekend,” he commented. “I feel like it’s a great opportunity at a place that I’ve ran well at the past, and done well as a team in the past. I feel it’s a great opportunity to get to victory lane.”

Dillon has done well in the past at Kentucky, with finishes of seventh, third and 15th in his previous three starts. Last fall, he led 155 laps en route to finishing third. He also has done well at Kentucky in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, picking up a win in 2013.

“There’s always been a natural connection between me and this race track,” he said. “I’ve been successful every time that I’ve ran here. Unfortunately last year, we led every single lap except the last couple and didn’t come away with the win. So we definitely want to redeem ourselves this year and I feel we have a great car to do it with this weekend.”

Beyond closing the gap on Buescher, a victory would simply be huge for Dillon and his team as they have yet to visit victory lane this year. In fact, Dillon has only visited victory lane one other time in the series, when he won at Indianapolis Motor Speedway last season.

“We haven’t visited victory lane yet this year so it’d be huge on two fronts in putting pressure on these guys for the championship, and for us as a team,” he commented. “To get victory lane would mean a lot for the year.”

Every driver’s main focus is their own program, but Dillon does admit that he has been keeping tabs on the points as it’s “hard not to think about” with that being their number one goal for the season, in winning races and the championship.

Though while he looks to close he gap this weekend, he says it’s not like he had Kentucky circled on his calendar as a special track as he feels that they should be able to get it done at any track on the circuit.

“Obviously, this track has been really good to many and I’ve probably led the most laps of whole career at this track,” he added. “But, I feel like every race track that we go to is an opportunity to win. I don’t just circle one and say that this is where we need to make up points. I want to be max points at every race track, and this is one that we feel we can get that easier than others – but I want to win them all.”

For Dillon, closing the gap on Buescher would be huge as he tries to solidify his plans for 2016. He would like to move up to the Sprint Cup Series, but didn’t have anything to offer on his future at Kentucky, saying that they’re still working on things.
