(June 9, 2012) – NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Driver Ross Chastain had an impressive run in the Lone Star State considering the truck series qualifying was rained out and practice was limited at the rain soaked track on opening day Thursday June 7th, 2012. Chastain finished 16th making this is 2nd Top-20 finish two weeks in a row.
Chastain had only been to the Texas Motor Speedway one time before in the trucks so he was slightly familiar with the track, however, Chastain really listened to fellow drivers and crew chiefs about “finding the top” and making a line work for him during last nights race.
“These races are all about learning the track and driving in different conditions” stated Chastain. “Once I found the top it made it a lot better I just needed long runs with my truck. I was getting too loose getting into the corners until I got some clean laps in. We certainly didn’t need that last caution, we drove past guys on that second to last run that finished in the Top-10 and we would have been right there with them, I just couldn’t keep up for 15 laps, but then we were awesome. I can’t thank the fans enough for hanging in there, with mother nature not cooperating with the weather on Thursday and Melon 1 coming on board at the last minute to help us at Texas Motor Speedway.”
Chastain matched his finish from last year’s fall race at TMS where he finished a respectable 16th place. Chastain is just happy to have the monkey off his back after being plague with blown motors and mechanical issued earlier in the season. The rookie is showing some seriously strong talent, as he remains consistent with his on-track performance with his underfunded #08 Melon 1/Watermelon.org truck. Chastain is a rookie and still learning these NCWTS trucks and the racetracks so his performance thus far is quite impressive and a future talent to follow.
