The Quaker State spokesman who was voted NASCAR’s Most Popular Driver for nine consecutive seasons ended a 143-race victory drought this past Sunday at Michigan International Speedway (MIS) by scoring his 19th career NSCS win and second in 159 starts with Hendrick Motorsports. The effort helped him maintain control of the second position in the NSCS championship standings and advance within four points of leader and Roush Fenway Racing driver Matt Kenseth. Earnhardt Jr.’s victory marked his fourth consecutive top-10 finish this season. He has manufactured a combined six top-five and 12 top-10 finishes through 15 events. He earned his previous series victory at MIS on June 15, 2008.
The series races this Sunday on the Sonoma road course before contesting its next oval-track event at Kentucky Speedway next week.
“We’re ready to welcome NASCAR Sprint Cup Series racing back to the Bluegrass State for the ‘Quaker State 400’ and eager to learn how large the ‘Celebrate 88’ section of our Kentucky Tower will grow,” Kentucky Speedway General Manager Mark Simendinger said.
This season’s “Quaker State 400” anchors a NASCAR tripleheader weekend that opens Thursday, June 28 with the Camping World Truck Series “UNOH 225” and continues Friday, June 29 with the Nationwide Series “Feed The Children 300.”
Tickets remain for all events.
