DSTP Motorsports alive again with Mike Wallace and JD Motorsports at Phoenix

Formula Atlantic team owner DeDe Rogers to back No. 01 team

GAFFNEY, S.C. (November 6, 2012) – Mike Wallace and the No. 01 Chevrolet team of JD Motorsports w/Gary Keller will have a unique – and winning – marketing partner on board for this weekend’s NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Phoenix International Raceway.

DeDe Rogers, who owned the DSTP Motorsports team that competed in Formula Atlantic action earlier this decade, has decided to partner with Johnny Davis’ NNS team. Rogers won the 2000 Formula Atlantic championship and was named Formula Atlantic team Owner of the Year in 2005.

DSTP, which stands for Don’t Spend the Principal, Motorsports is making their first foray into NASCAR involvement. Drivers such as Sam Hornish, Memo Gidley, Buddy Rice, Joey Hand and Alex Baron, to name a few, have driven for Rogers. Some of them have wins in the Indy 500, 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring.

Rogers, Wallace and Davis got together in Texas to talk racing.

“After meeting Mike Wallace, I could see he has that winning spirit I looked for in hiring my drivers,” Rogers said. “I have decided to support him and JD Motorsports for the Phoenix race.

“I am pleased to get involved in a different form of motorsports after years away from the sport of racing.”

Her original reason for starting the Formula Atlantic team was to pay tribute to her brother, Mac Rogers, who wanted to be a pro race driver, but passed away at age 27. Thus, they drove a No. 27 car in competition.

“We can’t thank DeDe Rogers enough for getting involved with our team,” Wallace said. “When we started talking in Texas, I was very impressed with her as a person. Then she started talking about her years as a race team owner and I knew we were dealing with someone very unique.

“For her to jump on board our NASCAR team, after years of involvement in Formula Atlantic competition, is very impressive with her accomplishments. We look forward to making her proud at Phoenix this weekend.”
