Nelson Piquet Jr. on his first NNS race in Phoenix:

“I’m looking forward to getting behind the wheel at Phoenix in the Nationwide car. I’ve only got a couple starts at the track but I feel like Turner Scott Motorsports has a great package for the one-mile tracks and I feel that we can be competitive. I’m enjoying the series’ schedule where we don’t have a long break like the Truck Series has right now, I feel like it gives our team a chance to keep up our momentum coming out of Daytona.”

From the Crew Chief, Scott Zipadelli…”Phoenix [International Raceway] loses grip as the weekend goes. We practice in the morning and race in the afternoon after the track has had a lot of rubber laid down. It’s always a challenge getting the cars balanced right on the first pit stop, and then keeping up with the changing track the rest of the race. The race goes by fast and can have very long green runs, so pit strategy is very important.”

Justin Allgaier on Phoenix International Raceway

“We had a great finish at Daytona [International Speedway] and Phoenix is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule. Its unique shape and challenging corners make it fun for me to try and set up the car to drive well in both corners. I’m looking forward to my second race with crew chief Scott Zipadelli and hope to bring home a trophy.”

Kyle Larson
No. 32 Eveready Chevrolet Camaro
Phoenix International Raceway | Dollar General 200
March 2, 2013

Returning to the Desert… Making four NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) starts in the 2012 season for Turner Scott Motorsports, Kyle Larson visited Phoenix International Raceway last fall in the No. 4 Chevy Silverado. Though it was his first time at the one-mile track, Larson made an impressive appearance; qualifying sixth, leading 43 laps and finishing second– his best career NCWTS finish to date.

Always Trusted, Always Ready… The No. 32 Camaro will have a new look this weekend, freshly painted with the colors of Eveready. Getting its start in the early 1900’s, Eveready has been an innovator in the battery industry, developing the first 9-volt and alkaline batteries in 1956 and 1957. The Eveready name always has, and continues to stand for trust and reliability. For more information, visit Eveready.com.

Rebounding from Daytona… Debuting in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) at Daytona International Speedway, Sunoco Rookie of the Year contender Kyle Larson performed flawlessly and put himself in contention for the win in the closing laps of the DRIVE4COPD 300. Starting from the 21st position, Larson was able to draft his way to the lead with less than thirty laps remaining and was within striking distance of the leaders on the last lap. However, the No. 32 Clorox Chevrolet Camaro was tagged from behind and caught up in a multi-car incident on the last lap, which relegated Larson to a 13th place finish.

“Most importantly, my thoughts are with the fans in the grandstands that were affected by the incident,” Larson said. “It’s not the way we wanted to end our Speedweeks; we had a good run going and I was able to learn a lot about the draft.”

This Week’s Camaro… Crew chief Trent Owens and the No. 32 Eveready Chevy team have prepared chassis TSM-323 for their young driver to wheel this weekend at Phoenix. This chassis was last utilized at Phoenix in the fall of 2012. With Kasey Kahne behind the wheel and Owens calling the shots, this Camaro was fastest in the first NNS practice session and finished fifth.

Watch and Listen…The Dollar General 200 fueled by AmeriGas can be seen live on Saturday, March 2 on ESPN2.  Race coverage will begin at 4 p.m. EST. The event can also be heard live on MRN Radio as well as SiriusXM Satellite Radio, channel 90.

Kyle Larson Phoenix International Raceway

“I really liked Phoenix when I ran there last fall; we had a really fast truck and it was my best NASCAR finish so far. The track has a neat shape and it makes the racing a challenge, but a lot of fun. I’m really looking forward to going back there with my crew chief, Trent Owens, and this entire Eveready team. They had a great run here in the fall too and we’re bringing the same car back, so hopefully we will have a great weekend.”
