Roush Fenway Takes to MartinsvilleAfter a strong showing in California and a weekend off for Easter, Roush Fenway Racing (RFR) turns its attention to the short paper-clip oval of Martinsville Speedway, where the team boasts four wins, and looks for its first at the .526-mile track since the fall of 2002.

Roush Fenway at Martinsville

In 176 Cup starts at Martinsville, Roush Fenway has turned more laps there than any other venue in the Sprint Cup Series, with 85,026 laps completed. During that span, Roush Fenway has collected four wins, four poles, 26 top-five and 62 top-10 finishes. All-in-all, Roush Fenway carries a 17.0 career average Sprint Cup finish to Martinsville this weekend.

Looking Back

Roush Fenway had its overall most-successful outing at Martinsville in the spring of 2002 when it placed all four of its cars inside the top 10. In addition, RFR posted a one-two finish at the track in the spring of 2000. Ironically, Roush Fenway has not placed more than one car inside the top five at Martinsville since that finish in 2000.

Winning Formula

Roush Fenway has won four Sprint Cup races at Martinsville with three different drivers – the last coming in 2002. Roush Fenway also boasts two NASCAR truck wins in 46 starts at Martinsville (fall of ’03 and ’05).

Fast Start

Roush Fenway is off to a fast start in 2013, with both Greg Biffle and Carl Edwards sitting inside the top five of the Sprint Cup point standings (4th and 5th) after the first five races. Edwards has three top-five finishes and a win so far this season and Biffle leads RFR in the points based on the strength of an average finish of 11.2 in 2013.

Ricky of the Year

Former two-time Nationwide Series champion Ricky Stenhouse Jr. remains solid and consistent during the first five weeks of his Sprint Cup rookie season, posting an average finish of 16.4, with all finishes inside the top 20. He has completed all 1,483 laps attempted in 2013 and sits 13th in the points, while leading the NASCAR Sprint Cup rookie of the year standings. Stenhouse is looking to become RFR’s 13th NASCAR rookie award winner.

Jack on Martinsville

“We have won there a few times, but Martinsville has not been one of our best places. I have an optimism with the new car that the glass is half full. I’m optimistic that the things we have learned with our testing and what we had going with Carl at Phoenix where he was able to win, will come to bare at Martinsville, but history would say it could be a challenge.”
