Driver Intros at Thunder Valley … Bristol Motor Speedway has a unique way of conducting driver introductions for their Sprint Cup Series races, as drivers walk the red carpet in turn three to a song of their choice. Menard has chosen “Electric Worry” by Clutch for his introduction at the .533-mile facility.

Race Rewind … In this event last year at Bristol Motor Speedway, Menard started the No. 27 Chevrolet seventh and finished 10th, collecting his third top-10 finish at the Tennessee short-track.

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

Menard’s Thoughts on Racing at Bristol Motor Speedway:

“I really enjoy short-track racing. That is what our sport was built around. Night racing at Bristol (Motor Speedway) always makes for an exciting evening, for some reason the sparks seem to fly even more when you race under the lights. We’ve had a pretty good record at Bristol over the past couple of years with four top-10 finishes. We’re coming off a great fourth-place run at Michigan International Speedway last weekend and I’m confident that momentum will carry into this weekend. Qualifying is key at Bristol, because track position is very important. If we can get a good starting spot for our Schrock/Menards Chevrolet and stay out of trouble, we’ll be in good shape on Saturday evening.”

Kevin Harvick
No. 29 Jimmy John’s Chevrolet SS

Visit www.jimmyjohns.com to view the Jimmy John’s menu, find your nearest location, order online or download the Jimmy John’s mobile application.

With A Little Help From My Friends … Bristol Motor Speedway has a lasting tradition of introducing drivers with a song of their choice. After 25 races at the Tennessee-based facility, Harvick is running short on fresh ideas, so he’s requested the help of country music singer Jake Owen. Via a tweet, the California native asked his close friend for help selecting an introduction song. Owen will make the selection and the song will be unveiled to all, including Harvick, during driver introductions prior to Saturday night’s race.

Race Rewind … Starting from the 13th position, Harvick drove Richard Childress Racing’s No. 29 Chevrolet to a 15th-place finish in the 2012 edition of the IRWIN Tools Night Race under the lights of Bristol Motor Speedway.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:

This is your second trip to Bristol Motor Speedway this season, how do you feel about going back for the fall night race?

“We ran really well there (Bristol Motor Speedway) in March, we just kind of got a little bit off on pit strategy at the end, but all-in-all the performance was pretty good. Overall, Bristol is a pretty crazy track. It doesn’t matter if it’s the old track or new track, it just seems like that night race brings a lot more excitement.”

Is Bristol Motor Speedway really all that different since they made the changes to the track?

“Bristol (Motor Speedway) is still the same. The only difference is that the top groove takes longer to rubber in, but once it does you’re able to run at the top of the race track. It’s kind of the same old Bristol that it was before they changed the style of track. The racing groove still moves up the track, and it’s still really tough to pass.”
Jeff Burton
No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS
Event Preview Fact Sheet

This Weekend’s No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet at Bristol Motor Speedway … Jeff Burton will race chassis No. 392 this weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway. This No. 31 Chevrolet was utilized three times during the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season at Kentucky Speedway and Dover International Speedway. Burton also piloted this machine to a top-10 finish earlier this season at Phoenix International Raceway and an 11th-place finish at Dover in June.

Career Bristol Stats … This weekend’s 500-lap event marks Burton’s 40th start at the half-mile bullring and his 679th-career Sprint Cup Series entry. Burton has garnered one win, eight top-five and 15 top-10 finishes at the track and led 322 laps at the Bristol, Tenn.-based race track.

No Stranger to Victory Lane … Burton claimed the 2008 Food City 500 trophy at Bristol Motor Speedway in a 1-2-3 finish for RCR. He also visited Victory lane in NASCAR Nationwide Series competition at the half-mile facility in April 1997.

Sign Here, Please … On behalf of General Mills, Burton and crew chief Luke Lambert are scheduled to visit Food City Race Night to sign autographs at 5 p.m. Eastern Time on Thursday, Aug. 22 along with several other Sprint Cup Series drivers and teams. Tickets are $5 in advance, $6 at the door (all proceeds go to charity) and wristbands that guarantee an autograph from Burton and Lambert will be distributed at 4 p.m. ET (limited to the first 300 fans). The event is slated to take place in downtown Bristol on the corner of State and Piedmont Streets.

Race Rewind … A multi-car accident on lap 192 collected Burton’s No. 31 CAT Global Mining Chevrolet in the IRWIN Tools Night Race and spoiled a solid effort from the Richard Childress Racing driver under the lights at Bristol Motor Speedway.

JEFF BURTON QUOTE:

Talk about how Bristol Motor Speedway has evolved into multi-grooved race track.

“I think everyone was surprised last year when the high groove became the preferred line to run. I don’t think anyone anticipated that. That usually makes the middle and low lines always open to pass. However, it is really hard to pass at all. Bristol (Motor Speedway) is a completely different track than it was five years ago, but to me it is more of a race now. I know fans enjoyed us beating and banging on one another with all the accidents and tempers flaring, but I think the actual racing is better.”

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTES:

After two weeks of road racing, we head to Bristol Motor Speedway for short track racing:

“When we were at Bristol (Motor Speedway) in the spring, our Chevrolet Camaro was fast and had a top five run going, but we had a little miscommunication towards the end that shuffled us back to 10th. I know that Richard Childress Racing has a strong comprehension of Bristol and what needs to go into these Chevys to have a good run. I’m looking forward to it, I know we can run up front and contend for the win.”

Will there be a difference in the track running under the lights as opposed to the day in the spring?

“The sun will be set, lights will be on and the track will drive similar. Our balance will shift a little bit because of the temperature and sunlight, it’ll still be a great race. The NASCAR Nationwide Series always puts on a great show for the fans.”

If the screener indicates risk, patients are encouraged to take the next step and speak with their healthcare professional or call the COPD Information Line (1-866-316-2673) to discuss what their score may mean. Because COPD is a progressive disease that causes irreversible lung damage, early diagnosis and disease management are critical to helping patients breathe better in the future.

AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

What is the racing like at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“Bristol Motor Speedway is a track where the racing has become really aggressive lately, especially with that groove at the top coming in. There will be a lot of beating and banging in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race. It’s getting down to the end of the year and guys are trying to position themselves for points, so you’re going to see a lot of aggressive driving at Bristol. Hopefully, we’ll be one of the cars that can put ourselves out front.”

How frustrating is it as a driver when it takes six, seven or even eight laps sometimes to pass someone at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“It’s frustrating. We dealt with it at Darlington Raceway this year. At some of these racetracks it’s just tough. Bristol Motor Speedway has gotten that way. You have to be patient, which is a very key part of these races. Riding in sixth is not a bad day, because on a restart late in the race you’re going to have the outside line so you might finish third or fourth. We just need to qualify well and recognize that pit stops will be key. We had a bad pit stop last time we were at Bristol Motor Speedway, so hopefully we can have a clean pit road and come out on top.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTES:

You’re scheduled to run double duty at Bristol Motor Speedway. How do you prepare for that as a driver?

“Double duty doesn’t bother me. I ran double duty at Michigan (International Speedway) last week, and it wasn’t a real big deal for me. At Bristol (Motor Speedway) we have a day off in between, so I don’t have to worry about back-to-back races or even back-to-back practices. I’ll focus on racing the truck on Wednesday and focus on racing the Nationwide Series car on Friday, so that’ll make life easy for me.”

What are your thoughts on running the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“I’ve always done well at Bristol (Motor Speedway). I even got a pole the first time I ran in the Nationwide Series there. It’s still one of my favorite places to race. I’ll be working with Shane (Wilson, crew chief) and the No. 62 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series team this weekend. TY DILLON QUOTE:

What are your thoughts heading into this week’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series event at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“Bristol (Motor Speedway) is a fun track to race. We had a pretty fast truck there last year, but we ended up running out of fuel at the end of the race. I’m looking forward to riding the momentum from our third-place finish last weekend into this race. It’s time to win another race this season, and I’d love to be able to do it at Bristol.”

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

What are your thoughts on racing at Bristol Motor Speedway?

“I’m excited to go to Bristol (Motor Speedway) because it’s always been one of my favorite places to race. Every time Shane (Wilson, crew chief) and I have been there, we have been fast. Richard Childress Racing has a great history at Bristol and they build fast trucks. There is no more worrying about aero and no more worrying about all the things you worry about with larger tracks, it’s time to go back and have fun short-track racing.”
