Tracy Hines Targets Becoming a Member of the 1,000 Club in USAC

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—April 24, 2014—  The United States Automobile Club (USAC) has been sanctioned races for nearly 60 years and only one driver in that span has reached the 1,000 National feature event start plateau. That was Dave Darland earlier this season. Tracy Hines looks to become the second driver to reach this historic mark this weekend, as he races in his home state of Indiana, with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. Hines heads to the track with 998-career USAC National starts under his belt.

The pair of races kicks off on Friday, April 25, at Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway, followed by a visit to Tri-State (Ind.) Speedway on Saturday, April 26. The Spring Showdown at Tri-State Speedway will be co-sanctioned by the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and the Midwest Sprint Car Series (MSCS).

“This milestone is more of an accomplishment to every car owner and all the sponsors that allowed me to reach this mark, without them I wouldn’t have been able to do any of this,” said Hines, who pilots The Carolina Nut Company DRC. “Reaching the 1,000 race mark means that I have been lucky enough to have people that believed in me and allowed me to do this for a living.”

Hines made a total of three starts at Gas City in 2013. He finished a season-best second with the Honda USAC National Midget Series during Indiana Midget Week. Hines raced twice with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series at the quarter-mile last year, finishing eighth in the spring event.

The versatile driver also competed at Gas City last year, during Indiana Sprint Week. Hines has won twice with the series at Gas City in his career, with the most recent coming in 2010.

Hines took to the quarter-mile at Tri-State Speedway twice in 2013, with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He finished eighth in the Haubstadt Hustler in September, which was a co-sanctioned event with MSCS. Hines also raced at Tri-State Speedway in May, finishing 13th. The native of New Castle, Ind., has one-career Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series win at the track, with that coming in his title-winning season of 2002.

Hines enters this weekend’s action sixth in points with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. He has three top-10 finishes in four starts. Hines came home third last weekend at the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio, which was his second podium finish of the 2014 campaign.
