AUSTIN DILLON QUOTES:

Do you enjoy New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

“I love New Hampshire Motor Speedway, that’s one of my favorite tracks. I’ve always run well there in the NASCAR Nationwide Series and the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series. I’ve got quite a few laps there, even going back to the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East days, so I’m looking forward to my first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series start at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.”

A lot of drivers say New Hampshire Motor Speedway is a really hard track to get a hold of. Why?

“I think it goes back to short-track racing. It’s a flat track, super flat. If you’re not comfortable with that amount of banking it can be difficult to really get your balance right on the car. You have to give up certain points of the corner in order to be good on the long run, and then also off the corner.”

Paul Menard
No. 27 Duracell/Menards Chevrolet SS
Event Preview Fact Sheet

This Week’s Duracell/Menards Chevrolet at New Hampshire Motor Speedway … This weekend in the Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Paul Menard and the No. 27 Duracell / Menards Chevrolet SS team will race chassis No. 448. This Chevrolet SS was previously raced this year at both Phoenix Raceway and Richmond International Raceway.

Menard at Loudon … In 14 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, Menard has an average starting position of 20 and an average finish of 24.6. Menard has completed 99 percent of the laps around the 1.058-mile track. In addition, Menard has six NASCAR Nationwide Series starts amassing one top-five and three top-10 finishes.

About Duracell … Part of the Procter & Gamble Company [NYSE:PG], Duracell has been powering people around the world for more than 40 years. Season-to-date … Through the first 18 Sprint Cup Series races of the 2014 season, Menard has completed 5,081 of 5,206 laps contested (97.6 percent), led 45 laps and is currently 10th in the driver point standings.

Double Duty … In addition to driving the No. 27 Duracell/Menards Chevrolet SS in Sunday afternoon’s race, Menard will pilot the No. 33 Libman/Menards Chevrolet Camaro in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event on Saturday afternoon. This race is scheduled to air live on ESPN2 at 3:30 p.m. Eastern Time, along with PRN and SiriusXM Radio, channel 90.

What’s Your Point … After finishing 16th at Daytona International Speedway, Menard moved up in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series driver championship point standings and sits 10th, only eight markers out of ninth, heading into Loudon this weekend.

Looking Back … Menard qualified 14th for last year’s spring race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway. The No. 27 Chevrolet team battled mechanical issues the entire event, which relegated the team to a 17th-place finish.

PAUL MENARD QUOTES:

A lot of people describe New Hampshire Motor Speedway as the way Phoenix International Raceway used to be. What do you think about it?

“It’s a fun track. It has not been good to me in the Sprint Cup Series, so we are going to run the Nationwide Series race up there to try and get better. It has been good for me in the Nationwide Series, though. We’ll try and make that transition a little better. It’s a fun track, you can run on what’s kind of like an apron. The bottom groove is flat, so it’s like having an apron. The fast groove is a little more up, so it’s like having high banking so you can change your position around a little bit. It’s definitely a cool track.”

Why is it so hard to get a hold of the track?

“It’s really hard to pass, for one. New Hampshire is one of those tracks where everyone basically runs the same speed. There are usually about five guys that stand out and everyone else runs the same speed. It’s really hard to pass, but it’s a couple grooves so you just have to make your car work where the other guys can’t. We’ll try to work on that apron and get some good drive off, but you have to maintain the turn.”
Ryan Newman
No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet SS
Event Preview Fact Sheet

This Week’s Caterpillar Chevrolet SS at New Hampshire Motor Speedway … Ryan Newman will drive chassis No. 435 in Sunday’s Camping World RV Sales 301 at New Hampshire Speedway. Newman at the Magic Mile … In 24 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series events, Newman is a force to contend with having three victories; the 2002 and 2005 fall events and the 2011 spring race. The “Rocket Man” also owns seven pole awards. In total, he owns six top-five and 15 top-10 finishes. Also, he has led 722 laps in competition. The South Bend, Ind., native has an average start of eighth and average finish of 14th. Plus, he ranks seventh in most points earned in the last 10 races at Loudon.

Team Test … Last week, all three Richard Childress Racing Cup teams tested at New Hampshire Motor Speedway on July 1 and 2.

RYAN NEWMAN QUOTES:

Do you enjoy racing at the Magic Mile?

“New Hampshire Motor Speedway has always been a good track for me, which is why I consider it to be one of my favorite tracks on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series circuit. It’s the place where I scored my first Cup win. I’ve found a way to be fastest on both Fridays and Sundays. I also enjoy the Modified races here and will compete in that event, as well. It’s going to be a very busy weekend for me, but it will be a lot of fun. I really enjoy the area and the fans are great. New Hampshire is always a place I look forward to going back to each year.”

When looking at the Chase grid you are eighth in points, but a win will help secure your place in the Chase with just eight races remaining. Where do you like your chances?

“If you look at my resume, you can’t argue about my chances at Loudon. My first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series win came there. It’s a place where I have the most wins in my career. Loudon is the place where I believe I can score my first victory with RCR and the No. 31 Caterpillar Chevrolet team. I also like my chances at Indy and Pocono. I think those places can be special for us, too. Ultimately we try and win at all the races, but this sport is so competitive and it’s difficult to get to victory lane and even tougher to get there multiple times. This Caterpillar team just needs to stay focused and keep doing what we are doing. Kentucky was big for us to be able to get that ice breaker of a top-five out of the way. You really can’t expect to win a race by running 11th, 10th and seventh. But when you are in the top three, you are proving that you have a chance. I believe that’s the direction this team is headed and to look for a similar run this weekend in Loudon.”

Scott was shuffled out of the draft during the green-white-checkered final laps of the race finishing 16th.

BRIAN SCOTT QUOTE:

Do you like the style of race tracks like New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

“Our short track program has been really strong. We battled up front all day for the lead at Iowa. We were more of a long-run car and should the race have gone on a long run, we would’ve won that race. It played out more into the restarts and short runs and things that were not our strong suit. Of course, Richmond we were able to get the pole there and lead a good portion of the race. I’m happy with our short track program. I think we will be equally as good at New Hampshire. Hopefully we can figure out what it’s going to take. We are just missing a little bit to break into that win column.”

PAUL MENARD QUOTE:

What are your thoughts heading in to Loudon?

“I think New Hampshire is a fun track to race. We haven’t had much luck in the Sprint Cup Series, so running the Nationwide Series race should help make that transition better. It’s hard to pass here, but the different grooves make racing interesting. I’m sure Nick (Harrison, Crew Chief) and the guys have been working hard to bring a fast Libman/Menards Chevy to the track. I’m looking forward to it.”

To the Points … Gaughan currently remains seventh in the driver point standings as the Series heads to New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

BRENDAN GAUGHAN QUOTE:

What are your thoughts on New Hampshire Motor Speedway?

“I haven’t been to New Hampshire in a while. It is Shane Wilson’s home track. He always tries to put on a good show for me when I am home at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. So I am going to do my best to run well for him. I like New Hampshire because it’s a fun, driver-style track. You have to have a good setup because the track is so flat and demanding to get grip. The fun part is racing for a team like RCR where you know you will have great equipment and a setup.”
