Darlington on Labor Day Among Changes Announced on 2015 Sprint Cup Series Schedule

As previewed this past weekend at Bristol Motor Speedway, NASCAR announced the 2015 Sprint Cup Series schedule on Tuesday.

One of the biggest highlights of the new schedule is that Darlington Raceway gets its traditional Labor Day weekend date back. Darlington has been on the schedule since 1950, and had hosted a race every Labor day weekend until 2003, when the date was moved to December for 2004. The fall date was cut off in 2005, with Darlington just keeping one race a year on Mother’s Day weekend. However, going back on the traditions of the sport per the fan’s request, Darlington will run on Labor Day weekend, trading dates with Kansas Speedway.

Atlanta Motor Speedway and Phoenix International Raceway also swapped dates, with Atlanta now a week after the Daytona 500, and Phoenix’s first date on the schedule slotted in at week four.

As announced this past weekend, Bristol has been moved to mid-April versus mid-March in hopes for warmer temperatures and less wet weather. To accomplish this, NASCAR swapped Bristol and Auto Club Speedway around, so now ACS will be the fifth race of the season.

Kentucky Speedway’s date was moved slightly, with it being moved a week after the July Daytona race, versus being before the race.

Lastly, Charlotte Motor Speedway and Kansas Speedway will trade their fall dates, with no other changes made within the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
