Close to Home: Tracy Hines Heads to Lawrenceburg

NEW CASTLE, Ind.—September 25, 2014Lawrenceburg Speedway, located in his home state of Indiana, is about a 75-mile drive for Tracy Hines. It is one of the shortest drives he has all season as he competes in the three USAC National series. He makes the trek to the southeast side of the Hoosier state this weekend for an Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car series event at the high-banked oval.

The City of Lawrenceburg Fall Nationals is set for Saturday, September 27, and will be co-sanctioned by the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series and Midwest Sprint Car Series.

Hines has made two starts at Lawrenceburg Speedway this season. He finished second during Indiana Midget Week in June for the Honda USAC National Midget Series at the state-of-the-art, high-banked three-eighths-mile. With the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series, the veteran driver finished 19th on April 5, aboard The Carolina Nut Company DRC. The scheduled race during Indiana Sprint Week was rained out and not rescheduled.

“Lawrenceburg always puts on a great show,” said Hines. “With the season winding down there will definitely be a strong field of cars there. It sounds like the weather will be great as well. A lot of times in the early fall you can get some very chilly temperatures, which is good for horsepower, but makes it tough on the fans in the stands. To have warm weather at this time of the year is a plus and should make for a great time for all.”

In his career at Lawrenceburg Speedway, Hines has one-career USAC national win, with that coming in 2010 with the Honda USAC National Midget Series. He most recently won at the track in a sprint car in 2011, in a weekly show. The City of Lawrenceburg Fall Nationals have been co-sanctioned with the Midwest Sprint Car Series for each of the last three years, with Hines finishing fifth, eighth and 22nd in that trio of events.

Last weekend, Hines competed at the famed Eldora Speedway in Ohio, during the Four-Crown Nationals. Qualifying and heat races were held on Saturday, September 20, before rained forced the postponement of feature events until the following afternoon. Hines finished third in the 50-lap feature for the Traxxas Silver Crown Series and was fourth in the 30-lapper for the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series. After getting caught up in an early incident in the 25-lap Honda USAC National Midget Series A-main, he soldiered on to an eighth-place finish.

“We had a decent Four-Crown Nationals,” Hines said. “We would have liked to have been in contention for all three wins, but obviously that wasn’t the case. Getting caught up in the early accident in the midget race was very unfortunate. In the sprint car and Silver Crown races it was tough to gain a lot of ground, but for a daytime show, the track held up. In days races you always have to conserve your tires and make sure you have something left at the end.”

In the point standings, Hines is second with the Traxxas USAC Silver Crown Series, just 12 markers out of the lead with one race remaining. On the Honda USAC National Midget Series side, he is third, and with the Amsoil USAC National Sprint Car Series he sits sixth.
