HEADS UP KANSAS, HERE WE COME: Elliott Sadler and the No. 11 OneMain Financial team make their first trip of the year to Kansas City, Kansas this weekend to compete in the NASCAR Nationwide Series event at Kansas Speedway. In his Nationwide Series career, Sadler has competed at Kansas Speedway four times and earned two top-five and three top-10 finishes. In addition, the veteran driver has 11 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series starts at Kansas.
JUST THE STATS: After 28 races in the 2014 season, Sadler is currently in fifth place in the Nationwide Series driver championship point standings, 64 points back from the lead. The Emporia, Va., native has one win, one pole award, six top-five and 20 top-10 finishes.
LAST RACE: DOVER INTERNATIONAL SPEEDWAY: Sadler qualified in the 10th position for the Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway last Saturday afternoon. With great mid-race adjustments and fast pit stops, Sadler and the No. 11 team moved through the field one car at a time. On the final pit stop, several teams elected to pit for two tires, however, Sadler’s team elected to add four fresh tires. When others dropped off in the closing laps, Sadler was able to run them down with faster lap times and finish in the fifth position.
ELLIOTT SADLER QUOTES: “This weekend we head to Kansas Speedway for the first time this year. I’ve had decent success at Kansas during my four trips in the Nationwide Series. Last year we finished in the 10th position. The team morale is high after our top-five finish last week at Dover. THINK PINK: All year long Sadler has represented pink Oakley driving shoes to show support for breast cancer awareness and honor his mom, Bell. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007, and is now a survivor. With October being National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Sadler and OneMain Financial are planning to run a special all pink paint scheme at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Oct 10th. In addition, Sadler will sport a custom pink fire suit and custom pink helmet to match the car. Fans will have the opportunity to bid on his race-worn shoes, gloves, suit and helmet throughout the month of October. Proceeds from the auctions will go toward breast cancer research and education.
