IndyCar Racer Lending Support to
Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation of Canada
Toronto, Ontario (October 17, 2014) – James Hinchcliffe will be back in his hometown of Toronto, Ontario on Saturday 25th October attending a fundraising charity event that’s close to his heart on behalf of the Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia Foundation of Canada (WMFC –www.wmfc.ca), hosted at the Bata Shoe Museum on Bloor Street West.
The three-time Verizon IndyCar Series race winner, set to drive for Schmidt Peterson Motorsports from 2015 onwards, has long supported the work of WMFC as it was created by his mother, Arlene, after her own father passed away from the blood cancer.
With the Foundation created to provide information and to support those living with WM, this year’s fundraiser will see the launch of the ‘Imagine A Cure’ campaign with the goal of raising $1million within five years to fund more research into the disease. Currently WMFC is funding a two-year research project at the British Columbia Cancer Agency in Vancouver.
Always eager to support the charity, in addition to attending next weekend’s event, Hinchcliffe (27) will also be donating several items for the evening’s silent auction. Included amongst his donations are his race suit from this year’s Indy 500, where he qualified on the front-row for the second time in three seasons, as well as various race car parts and some of his own famed ‘Hinchtown Hammer Down’ ale.
“As a family we know only too well the effects of this disease,” stated Hinchcliffe. “I’m always in awe of my mom’s passion to not only raise awareness of Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinema but her tireless efforts through the WMFC to fund research into it so we can better understand it. I’m delighted to attend next Saturday’s event in Toronto, it’s always fun to get back home and even better when it’s for a great cause.

Hinchcliffe has just rounded out his fourth season competing in the Verizon IndyCar Series. After winning ‘Rookie of the Year’ honours in 2011, James has twice finished inside the top-ten Driver Standings and his career resume boasts three victories and seven podium finishes competing in North America’s premier open-wheel racing series. James’ 2014 season consisted of eight top-ten finishes and five front-row starts.
