Armstrong Looks to 1.5-Mile Experience to Help at Texas

Team Hopes to Improve from Spring Race for Top-10 Finish

Dakoda Armstrong and the No. 43 WinField team will return to action at Texas Motor Speedway after a two week hiatus for the Nationwide Series. Prior to the break, the series competed at two mile-and-a-half tracks and will return to another one this weekend. Armstrong and the team are looking for improvement with their mile-and-a-half program and are hoping that the consistency of competing at mile-and-a-half tracks the last two races will help them going into this weekend.

After getting some track time under his belt, Armstrong has improved the second-half of the season. He finished 22nd during the spring race at Texas and is looking to improve to a Top-10 finish this fall.

In addition to his Nationwide start at Texas earlier this year, Armstrong has three NASCAR Camping World Truck Series starts at the Fort Worth track. His best start of 12th came in the fall race in 2013, and he earned his best finish of 11th in the spring of that year. As an organization, Richard Petty Motorsports’ best Nationwide finish at Texas is ninth in 2012.

“It seems like we’re fighting the same problems at most of the mile-and-a-half tracks. Just a little too free in and not enough grip in the middle, when we do find the grip, then we’re too tight. We’ve been trying to change up our package a little to try to help that. You wear out tires at Texas, so you do have to make sure you have good grip to sustain some speed for a longer amount of time. We’ve been learning some good things with every race, so hopefully we can improve from the last time we were there. I think the consistency of competing at mile-and-a-half tracks the last two races will help as well.”
