AAA Texas 500 | November 2, 2014

Lone Star State…Justin Allgaier returns to Texas Motor Speedway (TMS) for his second NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) start at the Ft. Worth, Texas speedway. After rain postponed the race for one day in the spring, Allgaier finished 24th. Allgaier and the No. 51 team tested for two days last week at TMS in preparation for Sunday’s race. He has 11 starts in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) at TMS, with five top-10 finishes. TMS is the second to last 1.5-mile racetrack of the 2014 season.

Welcome Aboard…This weekend, Allgaier will drive the No. 51 Chevy with the Dallas city skyline on it representing Visit Dallas. The Dallas Convention & Visitors Bureau is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes Dallas as a business and pleasure destination. Dallas is the ninth-largest city in the nation and is part of the fourth-largest metropolitan area. Each year, more than 30 million people visit the area, making the surrounding metropolitan area the top visitor destination in Texas.

Meet Justin…On Saturday, November 1, Allgaier will give media pace car rides around TMS at 8:30 – 9:30 a.m. CDT. On Sunday, November 2, he will appear for a Q&A at Racing with Faith from 9:15 – 9:30 a.m. CST. The free Q&A is open to the public and located at Gate Seven, Section 146. He will also appear at the Team Chevy stage for a Q&A at 9:45 – 10:00 a.m. CST.

Martinsville Recap…Allgaier made his second-career NSCS start last Sunday at Martinsville Speedway, one of the few racetracks where he has not raced in any other series. Overcoming a couple of mechanical issues in practice and avoiding numerous incidents throughout the 500-lap event, he was able to bring home another top-20 finish. He led four laps during the race and crossed the finish line in 17th in the Auto-Owners Insurance Chevrolet for HScott Motorsports.

Sunoco Rookie of the Year…After graduating to the NSCS this season, Allgaier is competing for Sunoco Rookie of the Year honors in the No. 51 Visit Dallas Chevy. In 2009, Allgaier took home the Rookie of the Year title in the NNS. After Martinsville, Allgaier is currently third in the standings, behind Kyle Larson and Austin Dillon.

Justin Allgaier on Texas Motor Speedway:

“I like Texas [Motor Speedway]. It’s a very fast mile-and-a-half and is pretty bumpy, which gives it a lot of character. We just tested there last week and I was able to log quite a few laps during the test and learned a lot. We obviously tested for this weekend, but we also tried out some stuff for 2015. It looks like the weather this weekend should be pretty similar to our test conditions, which is always nice. We have a different sponsor this weekend with Visit Dallas on the car, so I hope to put a good show on for them.”

Crew Chief Steve Addington on Texas Motor Speedway:

“Our mile-and-a-half program has really improved throughout the season. We spent two days testing at Texas [Motor Speedway] last week and were able to build on our notebook for this weekend. Typically, there’s a lot of long green-flag runs at Texas, so we will work on some long runs during practice to see how the car shakes out. Otherwise, it’s a pretty standard weekend for us. If we get a good starting spot and can avoid the accidents, we should have a pretty good day.”

About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:

Addington also served as a NSCS crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former NNS crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
