What Turn 4?…Justin Allgaier makes his second and final stop of the season at Pocono Raceway this weekend. This weekend marks Allgaier’s fourth start at the 2.5-mile track. His best finish in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) at Pocono is 16th in August of 2014. He also has led six laps in the NSCS at Pocono. The Fraternal Order of Eagles (F.O.E.) share the No. 51 Chevy this weekend with Switch Hitch. This is the second time F.O.E. and Switch Hitch have been co-primaries on the No. 51 car together this season.
Media Pace Car Rides…On Saturday, August 1, from 7:30 – 8:00 a.m. EDT, Allgaier will give media members pace car rides around the 2.5-mile Tricky Triangle. All media members are encouraged to attend.
St. Jude Iowa Tournament of Hope…Following the race at Pocono, Justin will head to Des Moines, Iowa with several other NASCAR drivers for the Iowa St. Jude Tournament of Hope. The tournament begins with a shotgun start on Monday, August 3, at 1:15 p.m. EDT and tickets are still available for purchase at www.stjude.org.
Indianapolis Race Recap…The NSCS made its annual trip to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS) last weekend. Last weekend’s race was the first of two races with a new aero package that NASCAR implemented for IMS and Michigan International Speedway. Allgaier qualified the BRANDT Chevy 21st for the Brickyard 400. With just 20 laps remaining in the race, he suffered a blown tire and was relegated to a 37th-place finish in the BRANDT Professional Agriculture Chevy for HScott Motorsports.
Justin Allgaier on Pocono Raceway:
“Pocono [Raceway] is one of my favorite tracks that we go to. I really like non-symmetrical tracks, and Pocono fits that category perfectly. Each corner is such a challenge because they are so different. The June race was extremely different than the past races because of the pronounced bumps in Turn 2. Not only did we have the difficult corners, but we had to find a way to make the car handle well over the bumps. Fortunately, the track has done some work in Turn 2, so we’ll see how that turned out in a couple of days. I don’t expect that it will be really smooth, but I think it will be more manageable than it was in June.”
Crew Chief Steve Addington on Pocono Raceway:
“Justin really likes Pocono [Raceway] and it has been one of his better tracks in the Sprint Cup Series. We will not know how much Turn 2 is going to affect us until we hit the track on Friday. I don’t think we are going to have to focus on it as much as we did in June. Justin has led a few laps at Pocono, and we just need to put a solid run together this weekend.”
About Competition Director and Crew Chief Steve Addington:
Spartanburg, S.C. native Steve Addington joined HScott Motorsports in January 2014 as competition director and crew chief for the No. 51 Fraternal Order of Eagles / Switch Hitch Chevrolet SS. Steve comes to the team from Stewart-Haas Racing, where he spent the past two seasons as crew chief on the No. 14 team and earned four wins with Tony Stewart. Addington also served as a Sprint Cup Series crew chief at Team Penske and Joe Gibbs Racing, racking up a total of 20 wins in the series. Addington began his career working on dirt cars and is a former XFINITY Series crew chief. Addington resides in China Grove, N.C. with his wife Katie and has three children.
