ADVANCE NOTES

Reed at Watkins Glen International

Reed has made just one start in the NASCAR XFINITY Series at Watkins Glen International (WGI). In 2014, Reed finished 12th after starting 28th. The team had to go to a backup car after a wreck in final practice, leaving Reed to make his first laps in the backup car during qualifying.

Reed also ran in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East race at WGI in 2014, finishing seventh after starting 20th.

Riding with Ryan

American Diabetes Association® Youth Ambassadors Ian and Caleb VanDruff of Syre, Pa. will have their names featured on a decal above the passenger-side door on the No. 16 Ford Mustang this weekend at WGI. The 14-year-old twins were diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just six months apart in 2008. Since their diagnosis at age seven, the twins have been determined to battle every day to find a cure for diabetes. They both participate in the American Diabetes Association’s Finger Lakes Tour De Cure® cycling event and attend Camp Aspire, an Association camp for kids living with diabetes. Like Reed, they are going the distance to find a cure for diabetes. At the age of 13, the boys both completed a 65-mile bike ride and their cycling team has raised over $35,000 for the American Diabetes Association.

Iowa Recap

Reed finished 19th at Iowa Speedway on Saturday after being involved in an incident on the last lap while battling for the eighth position.

2015 Season

Reed is currently 10th in the NASCAR XFINITY Series championship standings after one win and 12 top-15 finishes. He is the leading closer in the NASCAR XFINITY Series, improving a total of 23 positions in the last 10 percent of this season’s races.

Local Connection

Rear tire carrier for the No. 16 team, Ryan Gamble, calls WGI his home track. Gamble hails from Sanborn, N.Y., roughly a three-hour drive from WGI.

Reed on WGI

“I really enjoy road course racing, but the set of challenges these tracks present are definitely unique. This track is so fast – the superspeedway of road courses if you will – which creates some of the best races I have ever watched. I was proud of our finish in 2014 at the track and know that RFR puts a lot of effort into our road course program. My teammates and I have been working on our braking and passing zones in the simulators this week so I feel like we are really prepared to make a good run at the Glen.”

Tune-in

Reed and the rest of the NASCAR XFINITY Series will take the green flag from WGI on Saturday, August 8 at 3 p.m. ET on NBC Sports Network and MRN.
