I will never forget these words: Kenny Irwin Jr.
NASCAR's
1998 Winston Cup Rookie of The Year Kenny Irwin Jr. died July 7,
2000 of multiple injuries sustained in a high-speed crash at New
Hampshire International Speedway, Louden, NH. Irwin was 30 years
old.

That was 5
years ago! Seems like yesterday doesn’t it?
It was one of the worst days
of my life. This time of year, which used to be my favorite time
of year, is now the worst. July 7 is almost here. I still think
of Kenny every day. That day will be the worst. In my heart he
is still alive. I look around and see all the Kenny memorabilia
in my home and just think about how much more there would be if
God would not have taken him that day. I have no doubt his
accomplishments would have been enormous. He was only at the
beginning of his career and had the best yet to come. But it
didn’t. I just want everyone to take a moment on July 7th
and remember him and his family in their prayers.
I still remember his smile,
the sparkle in his eyes and his generous personality. Kenny
loved his fans. He made that perfectly clear. Not once did he
walk past anyone without that smile and a hello. He made that
garage area a pleasure to be in.
Please everyone, remember
him always and his Dare to Dream Camp.Visit the site at:
http://www.kennyirwinjrfoundation.org/ and donate so it
can become as famous as the other camps drivers have started.
Check out the brick donation. And please visit the camp. We need
to spread the word about this. The golf tournament was a success
this past year. I just find it very hurtful that I did not see
it anywhere online or on television.
Maybe next year? I sure hope
so. To the family, know we are all with you. And to Barry and
this site, thank you for helping us to remember Kenny. |
