Hardball: Teresa Earnhardt and DEI most
hated in NASCAR
After failing to reach an
agreement with Dale Earnhardt Jr. Teresa
Earnhardt sole owner of DEI and DEI
itself are the most hated entities in
NASCAR.
Dale Earnhardt Jr’s fan
base has been estimated at 60% of the 75
million NASCAR fans. There are no more
loyal fans in sports than NASCAR fans.
They purchase billions of dollars of
NASCAR merchandise as well as sell out
most of the NASCAR race venues.
Fanatical fans have spent thousands of
dollars to paint cars, RV’s, 4
wheelers, garages and anything else they
can find in the paint scheme of their
favorite driver. Fans buy Tshirts, key
rings, cigarette lighters, coats,
jackets, and anything else that is
marketed and some that is not.
With the shocking news
that Dale Jr. will not drive for DEI
after this year those fans are wondering
what Dale Sr. would have wanted for Dale
Jr. Few of those fans believe that Dale
Sr. would want his son Dale Jr. to race
anywhere else. They believe that Dale
Sr. was building DEI to turn over to
Dale Jr when the elder Earnhardt retired
completely.
The Dale Jr fans are
understanding and loyal. They have
watched the sometimes public feud
between stepmother and step son. They
understand that Dale Jr has been
fighting an uphill battle and they will
support Dale Jr. in whatever direction
he decides to take. What the fans will
not forgive and understand is Teresa and
DEI.
Dale Sr. fans reacted so
violently when Jeff Gordon displayed a
number 3 flag to honor Dale Sr at
Talladega 14 of them have been banned
for life from Talladega and a few other
NASCAR tracks. I would suggest Teresa
Earnhardt not show her face at NASCAR
events. There are 45 million Jr fans out
there and I think they are miffed.
Some sage advice to
Teresa would be to give Dale Jr 100% of
DEI and keep the marketing rights to
Dale SR. That should be enough to retire
on and maybe just maybe the Dale Jr.
fans will forget about you in the next
decade.
