NASCAR Hardball:
NASCAR more like the Gestapo and SS
The Robby Gordon and
Marcos Ambrose incident at the Busch
Series race in Canada has caused quite a
stir. In an unexpected move it is
rumored Robby Gordon has given Marcos a
chance to race in the Cup series race at
Watkins Glen. If this is true I applaud
Robby Gordon for being more of a man
than many NASCAR fans thought he was.
When I analize the
incident it looks like Robby Gordon did
get the bad end of the stick. When the
accident that caused the caution
happened it took NASCAR approximately 6
seconds to throw the caution. A full
nine seconds later Robby was wrecked.
That is 15 seconds after the initial
start of the wreck caused by Harvick.
In those 15 seconds Robby
Gordon was either first or second.
NASCAR got it wrong big time. Having
said that, I now have to say that Robby
Gordon did not help himself by bumping
Ambrose during the caution. NASCAR
cannot permit such behavior in any of
the major racing series.
I do not blame Robby
Gordon for what he did. He was robbed. I
do blame NASCAR for taking so long to
throw the caution and not recognizing
Robby Gordon in at least second spot.
Every fan I have talked
to about this incident has felt the same
way. NASCAR wronged Robby Gordon and
Robby hurt himself by behaving poorly
during the caution. The same old
comments came out about NASCAR
orchestrating the finishes of races.
Also the same old comments about NASCAR
being more like the Gestapo and SS than
the governing body of the sport. If
NASCAR had any integrity at all it would
admit they made some mistakes and
apologize to Robby Gordon.
Robby deserved a better
finish than NASCAR dictated and there is
nothing Robby or any of us can do about
it. Oh well I guess there is one thing
we can do. Stop watching racing which I
am sure none of us wants to do.
Hiel NASCAR
