DAVE BLANEY, No. 22
Caterpillar Toyota Camry,
Bill Davis Racing: Starting
position: 19th How has your
car been today in practice
and on your qualifying lap?
“We were happy with the car
all day. We had great
conditions with the weather
when we went out and I
thought we could really get
a great lap. But we were too
loose and it just wasn’t
comfortable enough to really
go after it. But we had to
just take what we could get.
I think our car was a lot
better today than we were in
June and we got to work on
race set-up today, which is
something we haven’t gotten
to do every weekend. We’re
in good shape -- I just wish
we could have taken better
advantage of the weather on
our qualifying lap. Working
on race set-up today in
practice really gave us a
head start on tomorrow’s
practice sessions so
hopefully we’ll be able to
get the car where we need it
to be on Sunday.”
BRIAN VICKERS, No. 83 Red

Bull: Starting position:
28th How has your car been
today in practice and
qualifying compared to how
it performed in June?
“Practice went really well
and very smooth for us this
morning. We had a good game
plan and we executed it real
well. I think we had a good
car in practice and a good
car in qualifying, but
obviously we’re not on the
pole so we need to be
better. So far we’ve won our
race because we’re locked
in. I think we brought back
a good car from what we
learned in the June race,
but it is a little different
car with a little different
set-up. This car feels like
it has more potential in
race trim. Toyota has
brought us a motor with more
bottom-end power than we had
here in June with their
adjustments to the power
curve. I think the car was
better even in qualifying
with the power than it was
in June, but these
straight-aways are just so
huge -- it can be hard to
tell when you’re out there
by yourself. But I really
think the power will show in
the race on Sunday. I think
we are a lot better this
weekend than we were in
June, but we still have a
lot of gains to make.”
DAVID REUTIMANN, No. 00
Burger King Toyota Camry,
Michael Waltrip Racing:
Starting position: 31st How
was your car in qualifying?
“We’ve made gains on the car
today a little at a time and
we gained enough on it to
get us in the race. We’re
fighting some different
things compared to what we
did back in June, but I
think we’re better than we
were then for that matter.
It’s just one of those
situations where I know
we’ve been struggling a
little on the torque side
with the motors and this
track definitely requires
that. But I do think the
motors from TRD (Toyota
Racing Development) are
getting better and I think
we’ll get there as a whole.”
What does it mean to have
all three MWR (Michael
Waltrip Racing) cars in the
race? “It’s huge to get
everybody in and it makes
for a better competition
meeting on Monday. That’s
what it’s all about and it’s
good for everybody --
Michael Waltrip Racing, our
sponsors and Toyota. It
gives us that much more data
to learn from so we can
continue to have all of make
these races.”
MICHAEL WALTRIP, No. 55
NAPA Toyota Camry, Michael
Waltrip Racing: Starting
position: 39th How was your
car on your qualifying lap?
“Our car was crazy loose. I
got to the tunnel turn when
I was coming to the green
flag because you like to see
where your car is at that
point and I went to touch
the brakes and the pads were
pulled back. We were loose
coming to the green and
loose all the way around.
But I’m really happy that
the lap was good enough to
get into the field. But I
was going full tilt for the
full lap.”
MICHAEL WALTRIP, No. 55
NAPA Toyota Camry, Michael
Waltrip Racing (cont.) What
does it mean to you getting
all three of your cars in
the race on their qualifying
times? “Our goal each week
has been to get all three
cars in the race and I think
we have been faced with more
challenges this season than
what we thought and what we
told our sponsors. It’s nice
to see that we’re gaining on
our goals and it’s better to
be able to come to the track
and prove that by getting
all of our cars in the race.
We need to finish all three
of them in the top-20 on
Sunday if possible in order
to keep gaining points and
it’s important to me to get
the No. 55 car ahead of the
No. 49 car in owner points
so we would be locked into
the field in the case of
rain. If Mother Nature
wouldn’t have cooperated
today, the No. 55 car would
have gone home. So it’s
important to go out and gain
enough points to put
ourselves in a position to
be locked in should there be
rain during qualifying.”
DALE JARRETT, No. 44 UPS
Toyota Camry, Michael
Waltrip Racing: Starting
position: 40th How was your
car today in qualifying and
how would you compare the
track to the June race?
“We’ve made the car better
as we’ve gone along. I
wasn’t sure that it was
going to be enough to make
it into the show, but I’m
real happy to be racing on
Sunday. With the mixture of
sun and clouds during the
session, I wasn’t sure who
was going to get the breaks
of having shade on the track
during their lap. We’ve
fought the speed in this car
on qualifying laps and I
think if we can overcome
that hurdle, the car will
actually be pretty good in
the race. Generally this
place is a good bit slower
in the second race weekend
than it is in the first and
we picked up at least a
half-a- second from where we
were in the first race here
this year. That means we’re
moving in the right
direction at least.”
JEREMY MAYFIELD, No. 36
360 OTC Toyota Camry, Bill
Davis Racing: Starting
position: 43rd How was your
car in qualifying? “It’s
been a weird year and a
weird day for us because we
make strides and then we
fall back. We weren’t sure
what was going to happen in
qualifying because we
weren’t very good in
practice, but we made some
changes which helped us.
When I went out for my
warm-up lap, the car
bottomed out real bad and I
thought it was really going
to hurt our lap. But I just
kept my foot in it and kept
running and tried to get
everything out of it that I
could. Fortunately I was
able to post a lap that was
fast enough to get us into
the show.” How much did the
clouds and cooler conditions
help your qualifying lap?
“That saved our day. We
probably would have been in
trouble if it hadn’t been
for that. It’s about time
that something went our way
because we haven’t been able
to get any luck at all this
season.”
AJ ALLMENDINGER, No. 84
Red Bull Toyota Camry, Team
Red Bull: Starting position:
DNQ Can you talk about
everything you’ve gone
through today from practice
to qualifying? “Today was
just a rough day all around.
We began practice with a
crash on the second lap and
had to bring out our backup
car. The guys worked hard
and fast to get that car
ready to go back on the
track, and we were able to
get about 40 minutes of
practice. We fought a loose
condition all day and
although we picked up a
second in qualifying from
what we ran in practice, it
just wasn't enough to get us
in the field. All we can do
is focus on Watkins Glen and
making the race next week. I
know Brian (Vickers) will
represent Team Red Bull well
on Sunday.”
