KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller
Lite Dodge Charger)Starting
2nd in Sunday’s Pennsylvania
500
“I felt like we really
hit our marks well out on
the track. We got into the
corners hard, it stuck
pretty good and ran a good
lap time. I thought there
might be somebody that would
sneak out there and get it.
So you never know if you got
it in the bag until the end.
If it would have rained out
qualifying we would have
been bumped all the way to
14th. To be outside pole is
great and gives us the
chance to be towards the
front. Track position is
very important at Pocono.
We’re happy to be outside
pole and have a shot to get
those elusive five points
for leading a lap. Big
picture is what we’re racing
for right now.”
WHAT IS IT ABOUT FLAT
TRACKS THAT SUIT YOU SO
WELL? “I like the way you
have to drive into a flat
track corner and feel all
four tires underneath you.
You don’t have the banking
to help make the car turn so
you’ve gotta make it turn;
get back to that old school
feel where you get with the
crew chief and talk about
race setup, changing springs
and bars. Sometimes banking
helps the car turn really
well, but on a flat track
you have to do it all on
your own.”
THE PENALTY FROM DOVER
AND GETTING INTO THE CHASE
“That’s what everybody will
write about if we don’t make
it. To me, I feel like there
have been circumstances out
on the track where, like a
Phoenix, we were running top
five, got caught by a late
yellow right after we pitted
and finished 18th. That was
kind of a bummer. I think
Dale Jr. was caught in that
same boat, where we both had
fast cars and finished in
the high teens just do to a
weird caution. Texas, we had
a chance to win it, had the
same thing happen and ended
up finishing 12th. So, there
have been times where we’ve
let quite a few points get
away from us. Hopefully, the
100 that happened at Dover
won’t come into play. We’re
racing each week nice and
steady just gathering points
and being consistent. That
is going to be the key going
down the stretch.”
