The
Atlanta Show
Fayetteville, GA - I
tried something new and wanted to share
an experience with all of you. I
actually decided to buy tickets to the
Atlanta race! For the first time in many
years, I wanted to watch a race with the
many who keep NASCAR alive. I learned a
lot. The ticket was in the Earnhardt
seating area. I was in row 42, seat 12.
Now I am not the lean mean fighting
machine I used to be, but the space
allowed for my butt was just too small.
Tight might be the word. I got there 2
hours before the race so I would have
plenty of time to get to my seat. I
really did not need to allow so much
time as the stands were not crowded. In
fact, I do not think the seating area
was half-full when the flag dropped!
Now I will share with you some of the
stuff that I ran into. I was hungry so I
bought a cheeseburger and a
drink,,,,would you believe $12.00. I
learned something else about being in
the stands…..they are named correctly,
stands,, because that is what you had to
do if you wanted to see the race track!
If you wanted to sit, you were out of
luck! You just couldn't see.
The seat was really quite good; the
people around me were true fans. They
all wore there favorite race clothes and
hats.
The race was really not very
exciting…follow the leader most of the
time. Other complaint from the fans
around me were that all the cars looked
the same, (because they are all the
same). That nobody wanted to race with
anyone (they just could not do it
safely). The sound system was not loud
enough to hear anything (so you never
knew why NASCAR was throwing the caution
flag again). In addition, people said
the "lucky dog" rule was stupid (they
wanted them to race for the position,
not just give it to them for doing
nothing).
I enjoyed doing what "fans" do each
week, it was expensive ($107.00) just to
get to my seat, (I passed up the $45.00
parking area thank you). The racing was
terrible! And where were all the fans?
It is also a shame that there are no
seats at the west end of the track so
you would not have to look into the sun
(track owners never seem to think about
this when they build a track or revamp a
track).. I got home in about an hour
because I knew a short cut. Then I
noticed my sunburned face…..would I do
it again? Absolutely!
