NASCAR
Soap Opera Continues, Starring Jack
Roush And Toyota
The NASCAR Soap Opera
continued this week at Martinsville
Speedway. Once again the center of
attention, or star of the soap, is Jack
Roush. The hot topic all weekend was not
racing, like it should be, but instead
who stole a sway bar. Can we please move
on to Texas without anymore drama from
Jack Roush?
Jack Roush is a very well respected
man in the garage. But lately Roush has
been in a huge feud with Toyota, which
in my opinion is ruining Roush’s image.
It all started at Las Vegas. Carl
Edwards came home with the victory but
was penalized after he failed post race
inspection. It turned out the lid on the
oil tank was off, supposedly by
“accident”. Roush denied rumors that the
oil tank lid was off on purpose. But
Toyota felt the need to chime in with
ideas of their own. This created a war
of words between Roush and Toyota that
plagued the weekend at Atlanta Motor
Speedway.
We now fast forward to Martinsville.
Once again drama is brought to the race
track by Jack Roush and Toyota. This
time Roush claims a sway bar was stolen
last season at Dover. Who stole the sway
bar? Of course it was Roush’s arch
nemesis Toyota! Michael Waltrip stepped
in to confirm that his team took the
sway bar “by accident”. Roush was
threatening legal action against the
team that “stole” the sway bar. But
after Waltrip announced it was an
“accident”, Roush reconsidered.
Now, here we are. Denny Hamlin has
taken the win at Martinsville. But the
talk all weekend was the soap opera
drama surrounding Jack Roush. Many
people, including myself, are sick of
the Roush and Toyota feud. Can we please
move on with our lives? Toyota is here
to stay. It has become very evident
since Toyota stepped foot in NASCAR that
Roush dislikes the idea of racing
against a foreign manufactory.
Why did Jack Roush feel this weekend
was the right time to bring up the sway
bar incident? Roush found out about the
incident in January but decided to
announce it this weekend, two months
later. Jack seems like a pretty well
rounded guy and very respectful. But
some of the stunts he and Toyota have
pulled in the last few weeks are
ridiculous. Perhaps Roush and Toyota can
sit down and have a closed door meeting
to sort out their issues so the rest of
NASCAR can move on with their lives.
Roush needs to address his problem
with Toyota and then start focusing on
his race team. The same can be said for
Toyota. Many in NASCAR are tired of
hearing about the Roush and Toyota feud.
Lets hope this weekend at Texas Motor
Speedway we can have a race weekend that
is drama free. It appears NASCAR Central
High School is in session.
