Kyle Busch started on the pole and dominated the early portion of the Bashas' Supermarkets 200 and the Phoenix International Raceway Friday night. He led the most laps of the race. At the end he needed a strong restart for a green , white checkered finish after Jeff Burton tagged the wall with 3 laps to go setting up the great finish. Busch ended up keeping Carl Edwards at bay for yet another Nationwide Series win. It just seemed that every time Edwards got there a caution flag would fly.

With the exception of the 6 laps that outside pole sitter Brad Keselowski led it was the Kyle Busch show until west coast native John Young hit the outside bringing out the first caution. Young was on pit road and in the way when the leaders came into the pits. This caused Busch to get hung up the longest as he had to follow Young down pit road. He came out of the pits behind Kevin Harvick and Jeff Burton in third place. Within 3 laps he was back in front.

On lap 40 Clint Bowyer tagged cup regular Jamie McMurray sho slammed the wall bringing out the yellow. The yellow rag was gain waved for debris on lap 62 and the leaders, except Busch pitted leaving him a sitting duck. Within a few laps of the restart Carl Edwards, on the fresher tires, got by Busch for the lead. Shortly after that Harvick got into Keselowski spinning him and causing another caution.

Jeff Burton’s Richard Childress Racing team had a poor pit stop , putting him towards the middle of the field. Denny Hamlin made it past leader Edwards for the lead but Edwards fought back as they raced side by side for about 5 laps. Burton hit the wall after contact and needed to pit for repairs.

On lap 96 Hendrick development driver Landon Cassill got into Stephen Wallace bringing out another caution flag. This was the break that Busch needed as most of the leaders pitted for tires and fuel, including Busch. Within 10 laps Busch was on Edwards tail fighting for the lead and they put on a 20 lap side by side clinic reminiscent of Richmond. Eventually Busch remained took the lead and did not seem to look back. Edwards would occasionally catch up when Busch was stuck in traffic but Busch seemed to be in full control.

However, with 42 left Edwards got by Busch as Edwards seemed better on the long runs. Edwards had a huge lead when the caution was out for debris with 22 laps to go making the pit stops very important… Busch won the battle there with his premier spot at the end of pit road. Edwards was second off.
