Major
League Baseball has the
Homerun Derby National
Basketball has the Slam
Dunk contest and now
NASCAR has the Pennzoil
Burnout Contest. Five
top NASCAR drivers will
execute a series of
burnouts along the front
stretch at the Lowe's
Motor Speedway on
Saturday May 17 before
the start of the Sprint
Showdown (All Star
Race). The drivers will
begin from a standing
start doing a continuous
straight burnout then a
360 degree spin. They
will complete the
burnout in a finish box
marked out by cones. The
event will be timed and
there are out of bounds
penalties as well. The
driver with the fastest
run minus any penalties
will be the winner. The
winning driver will get
$10,000 given to their
favorite charity.

announcement and had to
pay vice president of
communications Scott
Cooper $20 for his
tardiness. Apparently
that is a common penalty
for being late for a
meeting at the Speedway.
Clint Boyer, driver of
the number 07 Jack
Daniels car was on hand
and will be one of the
five drivers in the
competition. Earlier in
the day he had a chance
to make a pass on the
course in a Petty Driving
Experience prepared car.
Clint didn't fare too
well on his run as he
hit the wall damaging
one of the Richard Petty
driving experience cars.
When asked about the
competition he said
"It's for all the people
in those stands and it
should be a lot of
fun.”
