When
D.J. Kennington
maneuvers his no. 81
Dodge around the race
track each week, he
doesn’t hear the roaring
engines or see the dust
kicked up by the cars
ahead. His sights are
set on something else:
victory.
Talented to be sure,
Kennington, 30, of St.
Thomas, Ontario, is a
hard-nosed driver who
knows how to handle a
race car. Widely
regarded as one of the
favorite Canadian
drivers, D.J. is no
stranger to success. For
proof just take a look
at his racing career.
D.J.’s lifelong love
for racing began at the
tender age of four where
D.J. raced Go-Karts. D.J.
turned 16 on July 15,
1993. He made his
driving debut the
following night at
Delaware Speedway,
winning the first race
he ever entered. He was
also the youngest rookie
in the 1994 CASCAR Super
Series, now known as the
NASCAR Canadian Tire
Series. As a measure of
his success, D.J. has
been the recipient of
numerous awards over the
years. For starters, he
was awarded the
prestigious Sandy
Harrison Media Award for
his outstanding
cooperation and
professional conduct
with the Motorsports
media, and the
Performance Racing News
Reader’s Choice Award
for up-and-coming stock
car racer of the year.
In 1995, D.J. won the
CASCAR Eastern Most
Improved Driver and the
CASCAR National Sports
Person-of-the-Year
award. In addition, D.J.
won the Mopar Top
Performer award 5 times.
Today, D.J.
Kennington is part of
the MacDonald
Motorsports NASCAR
Nationwide Series team.
Ready to take his stock
car career to the next
step, Kennington will
work on driving styles
and learn when to be
patient and when to be
aggressive.
Most racecar drivers
will tell you it's
always been their dream
to get behind the wheel
of a car and race. It's
the challenge. It's the
achievement. It's the
thrill of speed. It's
mastering the
car.....and the track.
For D.J. Kennington,
it’s all that.... and
more.
In 2006, D.J.’s dream
became a reality. He
made is NASCAR
Nationwide Series debut
at Memphis started 23rd
finished 22nd for
MacDonald Motorsports.
In 2007 D.J. continued
his development in the
NASCAR Nationwide Series
competition, competing
in 11 races for
MacDonald Motorsports.
His
racing career has earned
him fans all across
Canada. He has broken
down barriers for many
young Canadians with
future aspirations of
becoming a NASCAR
driver. For many, this
symbolizes that becoming
a NASCAR driver is by no
means an unreachable
dream. Not long ago, D.J.
Kennington was a
relatively unknown
NASCAR Canadian Tire
Series driver tearing up
the short tracks across
Canada. Today, the
Canadian driver competes
with some of the
greatest stars in
NASCAR.
Now, with the
opportunity in hand,
Kennington has his
sights set on winning
his first Nationwide
Series event. As
Kennington continues to
develop his skills
behind the wheel, he
will continue to find
fans who appreciate the
chance to cheer him on.
Perhaps some day soon
NASCAR fans will
recognize the Canadian’s
talent and will cheer
D.J.’s name, wear his
number on their shirts
and hats, and his name
will be mentioned more
often in the mainstream
media.
