NASCAR penalized Martin
Truex Jr. and his team 150 points for
bringing an illegal car to Daytona
International Speedway this past
weekend. Also car owner Teresa Earnhardt
of DEI was penalized 150 championship
owner points.
“We brought a new car
to Daytona and it fit
all of the templates at
our shop. It doesn’t
appear to have been
anything intentional on
our part but it was
still our
responsibility. We’ll
deal with it and move
on.” Truex Jr. said.
This drops him from
14th in the standings to
18th, 238 points out of
12th place, the final
spot to make the
“Chase”.
The car failed
initial inspection prior
to the race and was
confiscated and brought
back to NASCAR’s
research center in
Concord for further
examination.
Additionally crew
chief Kevin Manion was
fined $100,000 and both
Manion and car chief
Gary Putnam were
suspended from the next
six Series events,
suspended from NASCAR
until August 27 and
placed on NASCAR
probation until December
31st.
Nationwide Notes:
Navy is leaving the
No. 88 Chevrolet in the
Nationwide Series at the
end of the season. Dale
Earnhardt Jr. will have
to search for
sponsorship in 09.
Navy has been the
sponsor since the
formation of JR
Motorsports.
