It was
an off week for Nascar
Sprint Cup Racing. I
already knew it would be
a long weekend not
having a race to watch
on Sunday, but I decided
to make the best of it.
I invited a few friends
over for a cookout and
to watch movies on our
DLP HDTV. It looked like
we were going to have a
good weekend after all.
I made my shopping
list for the things we
needed for Sunday. I
knew we would need
Budweiser, Miller Lite,
Coors, Coke, Pepsi and
Mt. Dew from the grocery
store. I wanted to bake
a cake, so I added Betty
Crocker cake mix and
frosting to my list.
Little Debbie snacks
would be a simple treat
and they have a great
assortment, so I would
definitely want to get
some of those. I had to
have candy for my sweet
tooth. Reese’s, Snickers
and of course, M & M’s
would hit the spot. I
added a few other
essentials to my list
and it was finished.
Next, I made a list
for my husband. His was
simple: Crown Royal, Jim
Beam, Jack Daniels. Even
he couldn’t mess that
one up. I also asked him
to stop by Office Depot
and get some envelopes.
I wanted to send my
annual donation to
Victory Junction Gang
Camp.
There was a bad storm
Thursday night. Friday
morning we discovered
our patio furniture had
been blown around and
pretty much destroyed.
The umbrella had
completely disappeared.
We’d have to go by Home
Depot and get a
replacement. I wasn’t
sure we had the money on
hand for a major
purchase like that, so
my husband logged onto
the computer and went to
Freecreditreport.com to
see if we would be able
to charge the furniture.
He said everything
looked good. That was a
load off my mind.
I got off work early
Friday afternoon and
went to Best Buy for a
few things. Then I
stopped by Target to buy
a new outfit before
heading to the grocery
store.
I had finished my
shopping and was at the
Shell station filling my
gas tank when my Alltel
phone started ringing.
It was my husband. He
said he had stopped at
the Texaco to fill up
and grab a pack of
Wrigley’s gum. When he
got ready to leave, the
car wouldn’t start. The
battery was dead. A very
nice gentleman gave him
a jump to start his car,
and he was going to pick
up a new Interstate
battery, just to be on
the safe side.
When I arrived home,
there was a UPS box
waiting on my porch. It
was the new Infield
Parking ball cap and
shirt I ordered. I was
really excited. I had
been waiting for them
for almost 2 weeks. I
tore the box open before
I even got in the house.
While I was unloading
the groceries from my
car, the Fed Ex truck
stopped by with another
package. This one was
for my husband. It was
something from
Campingworld/Rv’s.com,
probably something for
his fishing trip next
weekend. He orders as
much on line as I do.
After dinner, we went
to Home Depot and picked
out a new patio set.
They said they could
deliver it early
Saturday morning, but
some of the smaller
pieces would need to be
assembled. We told them
that would be no
problem.
Although we were both
exhausted, we managed to
stay awake long enough
to watch the Nascar
Craftsman Truck race and
the Nationwide race.
After the races were
over, we went to bed.
My husband complained
about how lumpy the
mattress had become, so
I suggested he go to
Denvermattress.com and
order a new one. He said
he would take care of it
first thing in the
morning.
Saturday started out
good. For breakfast, I
had a bowl of Cheerios
and my husband had
Kellogg’s Frosted
Flakes. Afterwards, I
started baking and my
husband went to
Furniture Row to pick
out a new desk for his
den. While he was out,
he stopped at State
Water Heaters to do some
pricing. Our water
heater hasn’t been
working up to par
lately, and we want to
be prepared in case
something happens to it.
He had noticed
several pieces of our
wood fence had been
damaged by the storm, so
on his way home he
stopped at Lowe’s to get
a few boards and some
Dupont paint for the
repairs.
When he returned, my
baking was finished and
the furniture had been
delivered, so I grabbed
an Amp for me and a Red
Bull for him and we went
right to work. He got
out his Dewalt power
tools and I got the
toolbox full of
Craftsman and Stanley
tools.
We repaired the fence
and then I painted while
he fumbled with the
patio furniture.
By the time we
finished and got
everything put away, we
had missed lunch and we
were both starving. We
decided to go to Subway
for an early supper.
On our way to eat, we
stopped at the Napa
store to get a new set
of windshield wipers.
When we got there,
Subway was packed. I
guess everyone was
having an early supper.
There was a nice
young couple sitting at
the table next to ours.
We could tell by his
uniform that he was in
the National Guard. He
and my husband talked a
bit about the service.
My husband is retired
from the Army. Military
people always find
something to talk about.
When the couple left,
my husband noticed they
had left their Cingular
cell phone on the table,
so he grabbed it and ran
after them. They must
have found more to talk
about, because it was 10
minutes before he came
back.
As we were walking
out the door, we saw
someone back into our
parked car. There wasn’t
much damage, just a
dented fender. The
driver immediately
called his AAA Insurance
agent on his Sprint cell
phone. We gave him our
Nationwide Insurance
information and got his
insurance information.
He said not to worry
because everything would
be taken care of. That
was a relief.
After leaving Subway,
we went to the Bass Pro
Shop to get some things
for my husband’s fishing
trip. While he was doing
his shopping, I found a
great pair of boots and
some really cute
t-shirts. I love that
place. They have
everything there.
Finally, Sunday came
and everything went off
without a hitch. The
food was delicious and
the movies were very
entertaining and the
company was charming..
Everyone had a really
great time.
I guess it wasn’t too
bad not having a Sprint
Cup Race on Sunday. I
had such a busy weekend;
I didn’t even have time
to think about it.
This is an entirely
fictional story and it
was fun to write. I
tried to mention as many
of the major sponsors as
I could. I apologize for
any that I missed.
