In the
words of Gretchen
Wilson, "I'm here for
the party, and I'm not
leaving til they throw
me out. Gonna have a
little fun, gonna get me
some." The song should
become Greg Biffle's new
mantra after claiming
victory in the first
race of the chase.
Biffle, the dark horse
of the chase contenders
is out to prove that he
can run with the big
dogs, and he may even
steal their bone.
While the focus of
the Chase has been
predominantly on Kyle
Busch, Carl Edwards and
Jimmie Johnson, the
Roush Fenway driver has
placed himself in direct
contention. Now, he must
battle the Monster Mile
in Dover, DE to see
where he will stand on
Sunday.
Biffle's Ford Fusion
was quick in qualifying
with a speed of 156.284
mph which translates to
one mile in 23.035
seconds. He sits fifth
on the speed chart, just
shy of polesitter Jeff
Gordon.
Biffle has one win on
the concrete oval in
Sprint Cup competition
dating back to June
2005. In the Nationwide
series, Biffle tamed the
Monster twice. All in
all, his results at
Dover speak for
themselves. "I've run
well at Dover in the
past and was able to
win," Biffle added.
Along with experience
at Dover, Biffle is also
reliant on his
experience in the Chase.
"There are several
things that play issues
along the way. I'm
thinking about that,"
Biffle added, "what
small mistakes I may
have made last time and
what I'm going to need
to do this time to be
able to win the
championship and not be
35 points short when we
get to Homestead.
Hopefully, it'll be the
other way around,"
Biffle added.
The pressures of the
Chase leave some drivers
unprepared, Biffle was
ready. "I knew the Chase
was going to be
something fun for us,
knew it was going to be
tough, and we struggled
to make it in" Biffle
began. "but, the last
five races leading up to
the Chase were really
good for us." Like many
other drivers, Biffle is
also a big believer of
momentum. "I feel that's
why we started the Chase
so strong," he added.
Biffle expressed that
he is not happy with
decisions made to use
Kyle Busch in a testing
session at Atlanta.
"I've got a really bad
memory, and if my memory
serves me correctly that
they said they wouldn't
use Chase cars to do
tire testing once the
Chase started," Biffle
expressed. "It does give
you somewhat of an
advantage, certainly."
Jeff Gordon is also
in Dover for the party.
His celebration started
on Friday when he
collected his third pole
award of the year., his
66th career pole in 537
starts.
