Greg
Biffle won his second
race of the 2008 NASCAR
Sprint Cup season.
Remarkably, it comes
just one week after his
first win at New
Hampshire, thus earning
him a bulls-eye. Both of
Biffle's wins were in
the Chase for the
Championship.
With his recent
success, drivers will
now be gunning for
Biffle. He is riding
high on momentum which
could be lethal for his
fellow chasers. Prior to
the start of the Chase,
Biffle had not won a
race. When asked why, he
responded "I wasn't
trying before, I don't
know, it is quite
coincidental, I have put
more emphasis on this,
Biffle added. "I felt
like I am going to be
more involved in these
last 10 races."
Biffle, drive of the
NO. 16 3M Ford Fusion
attributes a different
spring setup for his
performance in the race,
versus his performance
in June. "I just came
back with something
different," he said. And
comparing his ride with
its performance on
Saturday, Biffle said "I
have to say that I was
going to let these guys
down." Instead, "It is
starting to pay
dividends for me. I feel
like this has been
coming for a while. It
doesn't get more
important than this," he
concluded after
collecting his 14th
career victory.
For Jack Roush this
winning moment was a
trial and a triumph. "I
am just proud to be
here. I am obliged to be
on the winning pit box
when the checkered flag
comes out. I have never
been on the wrong pit
box when one of our cars
won.," Roush said. Today
was a quandary for the
cat in the hat, but he
chose correctly.
Roush Racing drivers
enjoy Dover , and Roush
believes he may know
why. "The racetrack is
real fast, you wind up
carrying a lot of speed
into the corner, you get
back on the gas, hold
your breath and try not
to hit the wall. They
all like to be all up in
the gas. They are
extraordinary brave.
They (Biffle, Kenseth,
Edwards, McMurray) are
the guys that close the
deal," Roush stated.
"This is like a big
Bristol," Roush added.
"Today I
hyperventilated. All
this oxygen was making
me crazy Just holding
your breath and watching
it all unfold." Greg
Biffle commented "I
wouldn't want to be in
his shoes," referencing
Roush's dilemma of
watching three of his
cars fight for a
position with the chance
that one or all of them
could be eliminated.
Biffle's win at Dover
International Raceway
plummeted him within 10
points of Chase leader
Carl Edwards. He now
sits third, tied with
Jimmie Johnson. While
the RV Camping World 400
presented by AAA was
kind to Biffle and the
Roush Racing trio of
Chase competitors, the
same cannot be said
about Kyle Busch.
Another week, and
another big problem for
Kyle Busch as the engine
in his NO. 18 Toyota
dictates. Smoke from the
Interstate Batteries
machine indicated that
there was an engine
malfunction. Later Busch
would report to the team
that there was oil in
the cockpit. The smoke
began to bellow out.
Busch's fate regulated
him back to a 12th place
points position. His
dismal finish may
possibly dictate that he
will not win the title
in 2008.
Matt Kenseth, who
also had trouble at New
Hampshire now finds
himself 10th in the
championship points.
Kenseth laid down some
rubber on the concrete
oval, as he pulled away
from the leaders early
in the race. Kenseth
tried to defend the
bottom of the track, as
Biffle got by on the
outside.
"I think all three of
us (Edwards, Biffle and
Kenseth) raced as hard
as we could possibly
race each other for the
win without wrecking
ourselves or each other,
Kenseth added. "That's
probably the best racing
I've seen in a long
time. I imagine -- at
least, it felt like it
from the seat."
Carl Edwards who had
led early in the race
held the top spot with
10 laps to go, when two
of his teammates slid
by. Kenseth secured a
second place finish,
Edwards third. "I had a
really good time," Carl
started. "We took two
tires at the end, and I
don't know if it was the
right thing or not. But
we ended up having a
great race."
With only ten races
left to crown a
champion, every lap has
begun to take on new
meaning for the top
twelve. The unique
concrete monster named
"Miles" is depicted on
the trophy, a trophy
that is hard to handle.
In the past Chase to the
Championship events, the
driver that won the fall
event did not go on to
win the title. Only time
will tell, if Miles
truly claimed another
victim.
