HAMPTON, Ga. (March 8, 2008)
– Today, David Reutimann and
the #99 Aaron’s Dream
Machine Toyota Camry team
aimed to deliver a strong
finish for Aaron’s Sales and
Lease ownership, which is
based in the Atlanta market.
They fought hard to earn
their second top-10 of the
season with a tenth-place
finish at Atlanta Motor
Speedway Saturday afternoon.
“The Aaron’s Dream
Machine team did a great job
today, but the car just
wouldn’t seem to handle the
way we needed it to,” said
Reutimann, who is now sixth
in the points standings. “We
soldiered on and got a
top-10 out of it. The guys
put a lot of effort into
today as they do every day
and did a great job.”
The Zephyrhills,
Fla.-native started fifth
after qualifying was
canceled and the field was
set by the NASCAR rulebook
due to snow showers this
morning. As the race got
underway, Reutimann was
running in fourth-place when
he made his first pit stop
of the day at Lap 30 under
caution.
“We started the race
tight in the center and
loose off,” Reutimann said.
“Before we pitted, the entry
seemed to be fine. I just
needed help on exit and the
center left alone.”
Reutimann restarted his
#99 Aaron’s Dream Machine
Toyota Camry third on Lap
32. Six laps later he
radioed Crew Chief Jerry
Baxter and communicated that
his Toyota Camry needed to
be tightened up because it
was extremely too loose.
Reutimann slipped outside
the top-five on Lap 41 and
had just fallen outside the
top-10 when the yellow flag
waved again at Lap 48.
“The car was a lot
different,” Reutimann said.
“Jerry and I discussed it
and we decided to give up
track position to come in
and work on it. They made a
track bar adjustment (no
tires) and loaded it up with
fuel.”
Restarting 20th on Lap
52, Reutimann was still
really loose. He was able to
hold onto a top-20 position
until he came back down pit
road on Lap 88 during a
round of green flag pit
stops.
“The Aaron’s Dream
Machine would start out
okay, but the longer we went
it was freer,” Reutimann
said. “I could only put a
little wheel to it.”
Under caution at Lap 103,
Reutimann dove to pit road
another time for his team to
tighten up the #99 Aaron’s
Dream Machine Toyota Camry.
“It still needed to be
tightened up,” Reutimann
said. “So, they put on
sticker tires, went a couple
rounds down on the track bar
and put a rubber in the left
rear.”
Reutimann restarted 15th
and reentered the top-10 at
Lap 110. While running in
eighth-place, he experienced
the same handling issues.
“We were way loose,”
Reutimann said. “Jerry
brought me in under the next
caution and pretty much
buried the track bar. The
team did a great job.”
The changes were
noticeable as Reutimann
became tight on exit.
“We pitted one more time
around Lap 172 for the guys
to pull out one of the
rubbers,” Reutimann said.
The #99 Aaron’s Dream
Machine Toyota Camry team
restarted 12th at Lap 175
and 13 laps later NASCAR
displayed the red flag for
an accident involving the 41
and 24 car.
As the green flag waved
on Lap 192, Reutimann forced
his way back into the
top-10. Another caution
immediately followed
resulting in the race ending
with a green-white-checker
flag finish.
Reutimann finished in
tenth-place and advanced to
sixth-place in the NASCAR
Nationwide Series points
standings following race #4.
He is 102 points behind
leader Kevin Harvick and
four points out of
fifth-place.
In owner points, Michael
Waltrip currently sits
eighth, 102 from Delana
Harvick.
Matt Kenseth won the
event.
Next the NASCAR
Nationwide Series will
travel to Bristol Motor
Speedway for the Sharpie
Mini 300 on March 15th. Live
coverage on ABC begins at 2
p.m. Eastern and 2:30 p.m.
Eastern on PRN Radio.
