KURT BUSCH (No. 2 Miller
Lite Dodge Charger)
Qualified 5th
“I felt like it was a
good couple laps for the
Miller Lite Dodge. If I
could have blended turns 1
and 2 from the first lap
with 3 and 4 on the second,
it may be a tenth quicker
then what we have right now.
We have what we have. The
car is stable. The test in
Charlotte gave us a new
direction and hopefully we
can see some of the results
shortly. To run a pair of
.47s (27.478 sec.) shows
that we have a real
consistent combination. It’s
nice to put our Dodge in the
top-five.”
ELLIOTT SADLER (No. 19
McDonalds Charger) Qualified
7th
“It’s frustrating. There
was something rubbing real
bad and it filled the car up
with smoke. I didn’t know
what it was and didn’t want
to take any chances. We left
a lot of speed on the race
track. It’s a shame where
track position is going to
be very important that we
gave up that much time. We
dug ourselves a hole. We’ll
try to make the most of it
tomorrow night.”
BOBBY LABONTE (No. 43
Cheerios/Betty Crocker Dodge
Charger) Qualified 10th
“It wasn’t bad. We wish
we could have gone a lower
60 (27.662 sec.), but it is
what it is. I can’t be too
disappointed because when we
unloaded, we were way off
chassis wise and Jeff (Meendering)
did a great job getting this
car right on this new
surface. We’re really happy
with our practice runs
earlier today, so that
should bold well for
tomorrow.”
STERLING MARLIN (No. 40
Dodge Challenger Dodge)
Qualified 14th
“It was a good run for
us. On one hand, you still
try to be a little bit
careful. A lot of guys hit
the fence. We had run a 68
(27.68 sec.) and I thought
we would run a 60-65. We’re
solid in the field. It’s a
long race, 500 miles. You’ve
got to race this whole race
track tomorrow night, be
here at the end and you’ve
got a good shot at this
thing. This is one of my
favorite tracks. I have a
couple wins, several top
fives and top 10s. It’s
always been a special place
for me to race.”
JUAN PABLO MONTOYA (No.
42 Wrigley’s Big Red Dodge
Charger) Qualified 19th
“We ran a good number
with a crashed car. We had a
car to be in the top-five in
qualifying, but it was just
a little too loose. That
happens here at Darlington.
It’s just one of those deals
where you try a little too
hard and just lost it. We’ll
start in the middle of the
pack and try to move our way
up and get inside the top 15
or so.”
SAM HORNISH JR. (No. 77
Mobil 1 Dodge Charger)
Qualified 23rd
“We were actually pretty
far step behind the morning.
I ended up crashing in the
first practice and the guys
really took a long time to
get the car back together
because if they would have
know some of the things that
were wrong with it right at
the beginning they probably
would have went to a backup
car. It’s really my fault.
They did a great job
recovering from it. I’m
really happy with all the
guys on the Mobil 1 Dodge.
Just got a little bit loose
there coming off. It’s one
of those things I had to get
out of it and they said the
lap time and I was like ‘I’m
glad that’s over with.’ It’s
been a tough weekend for us
so far but we’ll keep our
heads up and keep working
away at it.”
RYAN NEWMAN (No. 12
Alltel Dodge Charger)
Qualified 32nd
“We just missed on our
qualifying setup. We’re
disappointed because we had
a top-10 car in practice all
day. I like our car in race
trim so hopefully we can
forget about today and try
to move up the pack tomorrow
night. We’ve got a lot of
cars to pass but anything
can happen here at
Darlington.”
KYLE PETTY (No. 45
Marathon American Spirit
Motor Oil Dodge Charger)
Qualified 35th
“I wrecked this morning
and we were so bad all day
long. These guys worked
really hard. When I got in
turn three, one down there,
see it’s still turn three to
me. I’ve been racing here 50
times; I guess it is still
turn three to me. I got in
there and got loose. We were
very, very blessed to get a
good lap. I’m very happy
with it.”
REED SORENSON (No. 41
Target Dodge Charger)
Qualified 39th
“The cars are exactly the
same. So, we should be fine.
Whatever we did learn in the
other car, we will change
over here. We got a couple
of laps in qualifying to
make sure it felt fine. It
felt good. We’ll be ready to
race.”
ROBBY GORDON (No. 7 Jim
Beam Dodge Charger)
Qualified 40th
“All of us were
scratching our heads when
you see Jimmie Johnson put
two in the fence. Now we put
two in the fence as well. We
transferred all of our stuff
from the first car we wadded
up in the last practice to
our qualifying car and we
didn’t get enough air
pressure in the right front
tire when went out to
qualify. I ran the first lap
and it was okay. I was going
to run the second lap a
little harder to get a
decent pit selection and it
just tripped getting into
Turn 1. We have plenty of
cars; they’re the least of
our worry. We’re going to
start in the back of the
field anyway, so we’ll just
cruise around with another
car and stick it in the
show.”
KASEY KAHNE (No. 9
Budweiser Dodge Charger)
Qualified 42nd
“The front end took off
and slid into the wall. I
just drove too hard. I tried
to drive it like I did in
practice and I didn’t have
enough grip.”
PATRICK CARPENTIER (No.
10 LifeLock Dodge Charger)
Qualified 43rd
“I’m struggling. I got a
bit loose in two and had to
lift quite a bit in the
second lap. The first lap I
drove in too easy in Turn 3
and didn’t push the car
there enough to the limit.
But I was kind of stuck in
between hitting the wall and
making a lap to get in the
field. We struggled all
weekend a little bit with
the qualifying. We’re not
the fastest and the car was
edgy a little bit. I’m
pretty happy. I could have
done a bit better and the
car could have been a bit
better. I’m in the race and
just need laps. I need to
run around here and figure
it out because right now I
don’t have it figure out.”
