DENVER, NC (May 13, 2008) –
Running in the NASCAR
Nationwide Series is a
challenging feat let alone
two weeks in a row against
Sprint Cup Series
powerhouses. Well, Stott
Classic Racing (SCR) has
done the impossible,
qualifying two weeks in a
row against an ultra-tough
Nationwide Series field with
driver Andy Ponstein at the
helm of the #02
StottClassicRacing.com
Chevrolet. Richmond was
SCR’s big debut in the
NASCAR for 2008 with
cracking off a 32nd place
start in the field and
backing it up a week later
in Darlington with a 41st
place start, putting them
soundly in the field for the
Friday Night Fights, I mean
Races.
“Andy has done a great
job getting us in these
races,” stated Stott Classic
Racing’s owner, Corrie
Stott. But of course, these
good runs on Coors Light
Pole Day did come with some
issues in inspection before
the team hit the track for
practice.
“We have had some issues
both weeks getting through
the Nationwide Series
inspection process,” Stott
said, “that has cost us a
lot of valuable practice
time.” The issues come upon
safety features that have
changes over the past year
or two that is giving the
team the whirls during the
inspection.
“We could say NASCAR is
picking on us, but in
reality, the sport is so
much safer than it was a
year or two ago.” stated
Stott. “We just have to
figure out all the items
that has come to the series
for safety and implement
them into the Stott Classic
Racing Chevrolet.
Though the Stott Classic
Racing team was all smiles
despite the inspection
problems after qualifying,
lady luck wasn’t so good
during the races. With being
a go or go home team, there
is added stress to the team
to perform for the show, and
that showed come race day.
Both weekends ended early
with parts failure; an
engine at Richmond cut the
night short and a
transmission at Darlington
killed that night. With out
the high dollar sponsorship
like a Roush Fenway or
Hendrick Motorsports, the
Stott Classic Racing team
was sidelined to watch the
event from the garage.
“It is all exciting but I
will say a ton of work for
the Stott Classic Racing
team,” said Stott. Micah
Horton, our car chief, along
with help from Anthony
Alonzo and Dennis Duchene do
a heck of a job with the
limited resources to make
sure we get to the track.
The past two weekends, the
crew has varied for the SCR
team but many thanks due to
Ramo, Judy, Lance, Josh, and
Alison Stott plus Myron
Mason and Amy Andrade.
Next up for the Stott
Classic Racing in the
Nationwide Series is the
CarQuest Auto Parts 300 at
Lowe’s Motor Speedway. The
next race as a team for
Stott Classic Racing will be
the U.S. Cellular 200 at
Iowa Speedway with driver
Michael Faulk in the NASCAR
Camping World East/West
Challenge Showdown. As
always, sponsorship is
available for these races.
