Jeff Burton, No. 29
Holiday Inn Chevrolet
Chicago Preview
NOTES:
· This Week’s Holiday Inn
Chevrolet at Chicagoland
Speedway … Jeff Burton will
pilot Chassis No. 049 from
the Richard Childress Racing
NASCAR Nationwide Series
stable. Built new in 2006,
Burton drove this chassis at
Dover that June to notch
Holiday Inn’s first series
win. Last season, Scott
Wimmer drove this No. 29
Chevrolet to an 11th-place
finish at New Hampshire.
After receiving all the
required 2008 updates,
Wimmer drove this Holiday
Inn Chevy to a second-place
finish at Kentucky last
month.
· Still in the Hunt …
Based on Wimmer’s
seventh-place finish last
weekend at the “World Center
of Racing,” RCR’s No. 29
team maintained the third
position in the NNS owners’
championship point standings
and sits 377 markers out of
the top spot. At the same
time last year, the No. 29
team was 268 points behind
the points leader and, after
the Homestead finale, ended
up 255 points ahead of the
closest competition proving
that the No. 29 is still in
the hunt to defend the
Nationwide Series owners’
championship.
· Welcome Back, Burton …
Burton returns to the seat
of the Holiday Inn Chevy
after a six-race hiatus.
During that time, teammate
Wimmer notched one top-five
and four top-10 finishes
with a pair of 12th-place
finishes being his worst
showing.
· Good Things Come in
Threes … Burton has five
third-place finishes to
match his five NASCAR
Nationwide Series starts at
Chicagoland Speedway.
· Chicago Loop …
o Driver Rating …
According to NASCAR’s Loop
Data Statistics, Burton
leads the Driver Rating
(121.4) at Chicago. The
Driver Rating is a formula
that combines the following
categories: wins, top-15
finishes, average running
position while on the lead
lap, average speed under
green, fastest lap, most
laps led and lead-lap
finishes. The maximum points
a driver can earn in each
race is 150 points. The
Driver Rating number is used
pre-race as a prediction
tool and post-race as a
performance evaluator.
o Average Running
Position … Meanwhile, the
41-year-old driver is also
ranked first in the Average
Running Position category.
His average position over
the past three years at
Chicago is 4.138. The ARP is
derived from taking the sum
of a driver’s position on
each lap and dividing it by
the number of laps run in
each race.
o Laps in the Top 15 …The
27-time NNS winner has spent
97.8 percent (391 of 400) of
laps running in the top 15
over the past three years at
Chicago.
· RCR Nationwide Cars at
Chicago … RCR has won three
Nationwide Series races at
Chicagoland Speedway with
Johnny Sauter (2002) and
Kevin Harvick (2005 and
2007). In 17 NNS starts at
the 1.5-mile D-shaped oval,
RCR-prepared entries have
earned eight top-five and 12
top-10 finishes. RCR cars
have also led 217 laps in
the Windy City.
· 2008 RCR Nationwide
Report … In 47 NNS starts
this season, RCR has claimed
two victories – Clint Bowyer
(Bristol) and Wimmer
(Nashville) – 14 top-five
and 32 top-10 finishes with
five different drivers
including Wimmer, Bowyer,
Burton, Bobby Labonte and
Stephen Leicht.
Additionally, the three RCR
Nationwide teams (Nos. 2, 21
and 29) have led a total of
430 laps.
· Meet the Press … Burton
will be available inside
Chicagoland Speedway’s
infield media center on
Thursday, July 10 at 1p.m.
to field questions from the
gathered media.
· Design the Holiday Inn
Racing Chevy … The Holiday
Inn Family of Brands --
Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn
Express -- will rev up race
fans' creativity with the
launch of its third annual
online "Design a Car"
contest. Through August 22,
2008, consumers can log on
to
http://www.holidayinn.com/designacar
to design a new paint scheme
for RCR’s No. 29 Holiday Inn
Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS and
submit their design for
judging. Wimmer and Burton
will select the top-three
designs and then invite the
fans to select the winning
paint scheme. The winning
design will be featured on
Wimmer's car at a NASCAR
Nationwide Series race in
November. The winner of this
year's "Design a Car"
contest will also receive a
trip for two to the race
with V.I.P. treatment that
includes a meeting with
Wimmer.
· Bright Lights, Big City
… The Dollar General 300
Powered by Coca-Cola at
Chicagoland Speedway will be
televised live on ESPN
Friday, July 11 beginning at
7:30 p.m. Eastern Daylight
Time. The race will also
broadcast live on the Motor
Racing Network and Sirius
Satellite Radio. Qualifying
for the 20th of 35 races on
the 2008 Nationwide Series
calendar will be televised,
taped delay, on ESPN2 the
same day at 4 p.m. EDT.
JEFF BURTON QUOTES:
Do you feel like you have
a good mix of Nationwide
Series races this season?
“I think I have a good
mix. There are times when I
wish I was doing more races
and then there are times I
think it’s just right. We
haven’t been as competitive
in the Nationwide Series
this year as we are
accustomed to being. That
has made it a little bit
harder this year and the
Holiday Inn Racing team has
had to work a lot harder to
get caught up. I really like
racing in the Nationwide
Series. It’s a fun series to
me. I grew up wanting to be
a Nationwide Series driver.
I didn’t really want to be a
Cup driver when I was a kid.
Whenever I race the
Nationwide Series car, it
reminds me that this is what
I wanted to race. Jack
Ingram, Tommy Ellis and
Tommy Houston were the guys
that I thought were cool and
looked up to. I have a lot
of respect for the series.”
Does anything you learn
in the Nationwide car
translate to the Cup car?
“It is more of a racing
experience than a learning
experience, especially from
a technical standpoint.
Anytime you are driving
something you have a chance
to learn. I certainly
believe that but I don’t
think we are learning
anything from a technical
standpoint.”
