NOTES:
· This Week’s
Shell-Pennzoil Chevy at
Talladega Superspeedway …
Kevin Harvick will pilot
Chassis No. 219 from the
Richard Childress Racing
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
stable. Built new in 2008,
this is the same Chevrolet
Impala SS Harvick raced to a
14th-place finish in the
50th running of the Daytona
500 in February.
Additionally, Harvick raced
this Chassis to a 24th-place
finish at Talladega in April
and to a 12th-place finish
at Daytona International
Speedway in July.
· Talladega Totals … In
15 NSCS starts at Talladega
Superspeedway, Harvick has
one pole, three top-five and
seven top-10 finishes.
Additionally, the
Bakersfield, Calif., native
has earned a 22.5 starting
average, a 14.3 finishing
average and has completed an
impressive 2,821 of the
2,832 laps (99.6 percent)
contested at the famed
Alabama race track.
· Restrictor Plate
Success … Harvick has
competed in 30 NSCS races on
restrictor plate tracks
(Daytona and Talladega),
completing 98 percent of the
laps. He has also collected
one win (2007 Daytona 500),
two poles, six top-five and
12 top-10 finishes.
Additionally, “Happy” has
led 144 laps and has only
recorded one DNF (did not
finish).
· Made to Move … Harvick
is making his
third-consecutive appearance
in NASCAR’s Chase for the
Sprint Cup. He has earned
six top-five and 15 top-10
finishes in this season’s
opening 29 events. The
sixth-place finish last
weekend at Kansas Speedway
helped the team maintain the
fifth position in the NSCS
point standings with seven
races reaming in the Chase
for the Sprint Cup. The
Bakersfield, Calif., native
is now 136 points behind
leader Jimmie Johnson, 126
points behind Carl Edwards
in second, 106 back of Greg
Biffle in third and 15
points behind RCR teammate
Jeff Burton’s fourth-place
tally.
· Making it Four … Mike
Wallace will attempt to
qualify RCR’s No. 33
Realtree Driven to the
Outdoors Chevrolet this
weekend at Talladega.
Wallace, of St. Louis, Mo.,
is currently eighth in the
2008 NASCAR Nationwide
Series driver point
standings after 30 races.
Talladega will be his first
Sprint Cup attempt this
season but he has 186 career
starts since making his
series debut in 1991. In two
Cup Series races last
season, he finished fourth
in the Daytona 500 and 19th
in the fall race at
Talladega.
· Still in the Hunt … In
2006, after three races were
completed in the Chase,
Johnson was 165 points out
of the lead. He finished
39th in New Hampshire, 13th
in Dover and 14th in Kansas
with and average finish of
22nd. Johnson went on to
tally five top-five and six
top-10 finishes in the final
seven races to capture his
first NSCS championship.
Right now, Harvick is in
much better shape as he is
only 136 points out of the
lead. He finished 10th at
New Hampshire, sixth at
Dover and sixth at Kansas
with an average finish of
7.3.
· The Last Nine Races …

starts, Harvick has recorded
three top-five and nine

finishing average during
this span.

as the manufacturer with the
most success at the storied
Alabama track with 34
victories. RCR contributed
nine of Chevy’s wins, all of
them coming from Dale
Earnhardt.
· Mr. Consistency …
Harvick has not recorded a
DNF in 73 consecutive races,
which is the modern era
record (1972-present.
Harvick’s RCR teammate Clint
Bowyer currently has the

as a driver in Talladega’s
inaugural race in 1969 and
used his winnings from that
race weekend to help start
RCR. Childress boasts nine
victories at the Talladega
oval - all of them coming
with Dale Earnhardt.
Additionally, in 108 starts,
RCR boasts four poles, 27
top-five, 44 top-10 finishes
and just over $7 million in
earnings.

KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:
How frustrating is it to
race at Talladega since a
large part of the race is
out of your control?
“Basically, all you do is
to try to put yourself in
the best position to stay up
front. However, you have
seen that the wrecks can
start anywhere. There is
really no safe spot. You
just go and you push and
shove as hard as you can all
day and try to keep yourself
out of all the wrecks.
Hopefully, it’s your lucky
day and you don’t wreck. You
have a 50/50 shot of
survival when you go to
Talladega and that is just
kind of how it is.”
With Talladega being such
a wild card, if someone said
they would give you a top
10, would you just take it
and leave?
“I would take the top 10,
for sure! Talladega is
obviously a wild card in the
Chase. It is just so hard to
predict what is going to
happen. You try and keep
yourself around other
drivers who understand the
drafting game but one small
mistake by anyone can take
out the entire field. I
would love to win at
Talladega but if I was
guaranteed at top-10 finish,
I would take it.”
