DOVER, Del. -- It was one year ago when Casey Mears racked up $10,000 for shooting his way through the Budweiser Celebrity 9-Ball Tournament held at the Rollins Center at Dover Downs Hotel & Casino. This year, all drivers participating fell short of the final match, and the top prize went to Deadliest Catch fisherman Russ Newberry.
The match began with 15 celebrities.
Round 1
Denny Hamlin, driver of the No. 11 Toyota. Hamlin played for the Denny Hamlin Foundation . His first opponent was ESPN pit reporter Shannon Spake. Hamlin would take the honors and move on to Round two.
In his first match, Mears shot against Jack Garcia, author of "Making Jack Falcone." Falcone intimidated Mears and moved on to round two.
Kasey Kahne, playing for the Kasey Kahne Foundation, battled Miss USA Katie Stam in round one.
Ryan Newman was challenged and conquered by American Builder host Brian Gurry. Newman played for his foundation, while Gurry hoped to raise money for the Miss Delaware Scholarship Foundation.
Deadliest cathc fisherman Russ Newberry out-shot Brad Keselowski in the opening round. Keselowski played for the Dale Jr. Foundation.
Speed pit reporter Hermie Sadler played for the Elliott & Hermie Sadler Foundation. Sadler battled fellow pit reporter Jamie Little. Little supports Dr. Hans Keirstead at the UCI Reeve-Irvine Center. Sadler would take the honors and move on to round two.
Pretty Boy Larry Sharpe knocked off Nationwide Series competitor J.C. Stout. Meanwhile, Speed pit reporter Wendy Venturini took on a lady from the audience who was chosen to participate.
Round 2
Hamlin was challenged and beaten by Newberry, meanwhile Sadler eliminated Garcia from the competition. Venturini’s second opponent was Kahne, who left her in the dust. LSharpe and Gurry shot one game, with Sharpe taking the honors.
Round 3: Semifinals
Newberry hammered out a win against Sadler, while Kahne met Sharpe. Sharpe cooked his goose and moved to the finals.
Round 4: Finals
Russ Newberry was matched against Larry Sharpe. In the best of three matches, the victory belonged to Newberry.
