Well, it’s two to go until the Championship Weekend at Homestead-Miami Speedway. Hendrick Motorsports dominates the top three in the Chase and dominates the top 12 to start the race. Jeff Gordon is on the pole, Mark Martin starts 7th, Dale Earnhardt Jr. 9th and our points leader as well as the almost locked in 4th time Series Champion Jimmie Johnson starts 12th. It’s going to be quite a show today.
John Andretti, Paul Menard and Bill Elliott are going to start in the back of the field for mechanical issues.
You read the race recap and below is the lap by lap, in case you missed the race. We’ll do our best to give you stuff the TV doesn’t let you know about in the middle and the back of the field as the action up front.

GREEN FLAG as Gordon is on the inside line to start. IN yesterday’s Nationwide race the outside line was better on starts. Lap 2 Gordon has the lead, Kurt Busch moves past Kahne to take second.
YELLOW FLAG lap three BIG, BIG TROUBLE for Jimmy Johnson as he slips big time out of turn two, slamming the outside wall. David Reutimann was on the low side going to the left of Sam Hornish Jr. as they were heading out of turn two, Johnson on the outside of both driver. Hornish comes up, tagging the inside of Johnson causing him to go slideways then back into Hornish Jr.
Hornish Jr. heads to the outside wall, Johnson to the inside wall. Johnson’s car is torn up big time, and will be in the garage for several laps. The big cushion that Johnson had will be erased today, unless Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon have bad days.
GREEN FLAG lap 9 as Jeff Gordon and Kurt Busch lead the field racing into turn one. Lap 11 the big mover on the track looks to be Denny Hamlin from his start of 25th to 17th and Juan Pablo Montoya from 20th up to 13th.
Lap 12 lead change as Kurt Busch takes over the lead. Lap 13 Montoya passes Martin on the outside to take over 12th as Martin slips back in the field from his 7th place start. Lap 15 Earnhardt Jr. has moved up in the field from his start of 9th is up to 4th.
Lap 17 the start and park crowd has Mike Skinner, Joe Nemechek in the garage. Hornish Jr. is one lap down. Lap 19 David Reutimann started his day 13th is currently 7th. Lap 19 Kyle Busch takes over second from Jeff Gordon heading across the start finish line.
Lap 20 we see some video of Johnson’s crew tearing the car apart to repair it. The entire rear end is being replaced, the front nose, the mechanics of the front end and so on. Basically, everything that can be replaced without having to call it quits is being looked at.
Lap 25 your top ten drivers are Kurt Busch in front of Kyle Busch by 3.4 seconds, Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt Jr., Tony Stewart, Reutimann, Greg Biffle, Carl Edwards, Clint Bowyer and Mark Martin. We see the points standings between Johnson and Gordon are unofficially 56. Martin is 84 back.
Lap 29 Hamlin continues to be on the move up to 12th, behind Martin who has jumped back in front of Montoya to 10th. Lap 31 David Ragan started his day 17th is up to 13th on the inside of Kahne. A few laps ago Michael McDowell has taken his car to the garage.
Lap 33 Jeff Burton started in the back of the field 41st after a bad practice day, slamming the wall is having a good day today running at this time in 28th place. Lap 36 Robby Gordon is on the move from his start of 29th up to 16th.
Lap 36 Earnhardt Jr. battles with Reutimann and Stewart for 4th place. Lap 38 drivers who are normally in the entire race are starting to go down laps. We see Andretti, Michael Waltrip and Erik Darnell go a lap down. The next on the list will be Elliott, Regan Smith, Elliott Sadler, Bobby Labonte and Paul Menard.
Lap 41 Reutimann and Stewart pass Earnhardt Jr. Lap 42 Martin has moved back up to 9th after his pass on Biffle. Kahne slips back to 14th. Lap 44 Martin Truex Jr. started his day 27th is up to 18th. Lap 46 Kurt Busch runs 3.7 seconds in front of Brother Kyle Busch.
Lap 47 Reutimann and Stewart pass Jeff Gordon to take 3rd and 4th.
Lap 50 your top twenty drivers are Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Reutimann, Stewart, Jeff Gordon, Earnhardt Jr., Carl Edwards, Bowyer, Martin, Hamlin, Biffle, Marcos Ambrose, Biffle, Montoya, Kahne, Robby Gordon, Ragan, A.J. Allmendinger, Truex Jr., Joey Logano and Kevin Harvick.
Lap 52 green flag pit stops begin. A busy pit road with many leaders getting new tires and fuel. Lap 58 it looks like we will make it through pit stops without any issues. Lap 59 Kyle Busch leads his brother Kurt by 1.5 seconds. Lap 60 Hornish Jr. almost wrecks in turn one, but a big save, dirt track style.
Lap 62 after the round of pit stops we see 28 drivers on the lead lap. Add to the lap down list Casey Mears and Jamie McMurray. The next drivers who could be on the list would be David Gilliland, Brad Keselowski, Jeff Burton, Reed Sorenson and Brian Vickers.
Lap 65 as Kyle Busch leads by 2.3 seconds, points leader Johnson is 76 points in front of Jeff Gordon. Lap 68 movers on the track after the last round of stops see Ambrose running 7th from his start of 19th, Hamlin 9th from 25th, Montoya 12th from 20th and Burton 24th from 41st.
Lap 73 shakers after stops see Kahne with no improvement running 13th from his start of 2nd, Biffle 15th from 8th, Vickers 26th from 15th, Hornish Jr. 11th back to 39th and Johnson in the garage 43rd.
Lap 75 your top ten leaders are Kyle Busch in front of Kurt Busch by 2 seconds, 3rd place Reutimann by 5.2 seconds, 4th place Earnhardt Jr. by 7 seconds, 5th place Stewart 8.5 seconds, 6th place Ambrose 9 seconds, 7th place Bowyer 10.4 seconds, 8th place Martin 11 seconds, 9th place Hamlin 11.7 seconds and 10th place Edwards 13.5 seconds.
Lap 80 Stewart looks like his car is way tight in the turns as Ambrose takes over 5th from him. Lap 82 Keselowski, who is driving for Penske Racing is a lap down after Kyle Busch drives around.
Lap 84 next to be added to the lap down list would be Scott Speed, David Ragan, Ryan Newman, Logano and Truex Jr.
YELLOW FLAG lap 87 as Hornish Jr. wrecks on the inside wall coming out of turn two, after a solo spin in the middle of turn one and two. Keselowski is the lucky dog. The leaders head to pit road. The race out of pit road is Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Reutimann, Stewart and Ambrose. Earnhardt Jr. looses 4 spots on pit road. Speed is too fast on pit road will have to go the back. A note on Johnson the team has the front back together. We may see him back on the track in the next ten laps.
GREEN FLAG lap 92 as Kyle and Kurt Busch battle each other for the lead. The battle does not last long though as Kyle Busch pulls away by a half second as the exit turn two. Lap 93 we almost see another wreck between Jamie McMurray and Gilliland.
Lap 97 battle between Montoya and Jeff Gordon for 9th. Lap 98 Harvick challenges Martin for 15th.
Lap 100 (234 to go) as the top ten drivers are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Stewart, Reutimann, Ambrose, Hamlin, Earnhardt Jr., Bowyer, Montoya, Jeff Gordon, Biffle, Edwards, a three wide battle between Allmendinger, Martin, Kenseth then Kahne, Newman, Harvick, Truex Jr. and Martin. WE have seen 4 lead changes among 4 leaders and 2 cautions for 9 laps.
Lap 105 Logano battles with Burton for 20th. Burton takes the position. Jeff Gordon has slipped back to 10th. Lap 109 Ambrose is having a good day so far as he runs 3rd closing in on Kurt Busch.
Lap 112 battle between Martin and Jeff Gordon as Martin has a better handling car to get around Gordon to take over 10th. Lap 114 battle between Allmendinger and Harvick as Allmendinger takes over 17th. Lap 116 Johnson heads out of the garage back to the track, 112 laps down. Johnson lost 100 points of his lead as he is 83 points in front of 2nd place Martin in the points Jeff Gordon is 7 points behind Martin.
Lap 121 Kyle Busch runs 2 seconds in front of his brother Kurt. Lap 125 your top ten drivers are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Ambrose, Stewart, Reutimann, Hamlin, Earnhardt Jr., Montoya, Bowyer and Martin.
Lap 127 Kenseth started his day 30th is up to 13th. Jeff Gordon is down to 14th. Ambrose closes in on Kurt Busch for 2nd. Lap 130 Ambrose puts the pressure on Kurt Busch as we close in on our second round of green flag pit stops which are about 10 to 15 laps away.
Lap 134 (200 to go) 25 drivers remain on the lead lap. 4 drivers are a lap down who are Mears, Gilliland, Sorensen and Elliott. 2 laps down we see Smith, McMurray, Darnell, Vickers, Menard, Waltrip, Sadler and Andretti. Labonte is 3 laps down. Hornish Jr. is in the garage 51 laps down. Johnson has moved up to 40th, 118 laps down. McDowell, Nemechek and Skinner are in the garage.
Lap 142 Johnson and Darnell are on pit road. Lap 143 Earnhardt Jr., Stewart, Truex Jr., Keselowski and several other are in. Lap 145 Martin and Bowyer are in. Lap 146 Burton and Jeff Gordon are in. Pit road is packed with drivers as Montoya picks up 4 tires and fuel. Lap 147 Kurt Busch and Kyle Busch are in. Hamlin leads a lap for 5 points, one of the last drivers to pit.
Lap 148 and most pit stops are done. The leaders are for sure as Kyle Busch is back in front of Kurt Busch by 5 seconds.
Lap 150 your top 20 drivers are Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Ambrose, Earnhardt Jr., Reutimann, Stewart, Montoya, Bowyer, Hamlin, Martin, Kenseth, Biffle, Kahne, Harvick, Newman, Edwards, Allmendinger, Jeff Gordon, Truex Jr. and Burton.
Lap 155 we see 20 drivers left on the lead lap. The lap down list could see Burton, Truex Jr., and Jeff Gordon in a short time. Gordon is struggling with an ill-handling car.
Lap 158 Kyle Busch leads his broth by 5.4 seconds. 3rd place Ambrose is 6.8 seconds, 4th place Earnhardt Jr. is 7.7 seconds and 5th place Reutimann is 10.8 seconds back.
Lap 165 Truex Jr. battles with Jeff Gordon for 18th as they do their best to stay on front of Kyle Busch.
YELLOW FLAG lap 166 for debris Burton is the lucky dog. The leaders head to pit road. The race out of pit road is Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Earnhardt Jr., Reutimann and Bowyer. Jeff Gordon lost a lot of time in his pit stall. Ambrose lost 15 positions on pit road for big shock change.
GREEN FLAG lap 173 as Kurt Busch takes the lead. Kyle Busch drops in behind Kurt followed by Earnhardt Jr. the three pull away from the pack.
YELLOW FLAG lap 175 as Montoya hits Edwards in turns one and two. The accident collects Edwards, Keselowski, Jeff Gordon. Montoya is big time loose in the turns, shooting into Edwards pushing them into the outside turn two wall. Edwards plants the front end into the wall followed by a 360. Keselowski is collected as the cars spin off of the wall. Truex Jr. is missed by inches. Gordon was clipped on the rear end by Edwards. No lucky dog.
GREEN FLAG lap 182 as the Busch brothers lead the field back to speed. Kurt Busch pulls away from Kyle. Lap 185 Martin challenges Kenseth for 7th place. Kenseth is way loose out of turn 4 but hangs onto the position. Johnson is considerably off pace after the restart to where he is almost a half lap down 6 laps after the restart.
Lap 190 Kyle Busch spun his tires on the restart which allowed Kurt Busch to jump ahead of the field by 1.4 seconds. Lap 192 Martin closes back in on Kenseth as Kenseth contends with Bowyer as the three battle for 6th place.
Lap 195 Kurt Busch closes in on Johnson to put him another lap down. With the last accident, Johnson may gain two or three positions for his race finish.
Lap 200 (134 to go) as Kurt Busch leads Kyle Busch by 1.6 seconds and the rest of the top twenty drivers who would be Reutimann, Earnhardt Jr., Stewart, Martin, Kenseth, Bowyer, Ambrose, Allmendinger, Harvick, Kahne, Biffle, Burton, Truex Jr., Newman, Hamlin and Jeff Gordon on the lead lap followed by Ragan and Robby Gordon a lap down.
We have seen 9 lead changes among 5 leaders and 4 cautions for 20 laps. Lap 206 Burton and Biffle jockey for 13th.
YELLOW FLAG lap 207 as Sorenson slips out of turn two into the outside back stretch wall forcing him down into the inside wall. Sorenson takes his car to the garage. Ragan is the lucky dog. The leaders head to pit road. Kyle Busch is the winner out of pit road followed by Kurt Busch, Reutimann, Stewart and Kenseth.
GREEN FLAG lap 213 as Kyle Busch is on the inside line for this restart. The inside line works this time around. Lap 216 Jeff Gordon struggles in the middle of the pack as he contends with Ragan, Waltrip, Elliott and Sadler as the were “wave” around cars to get back on the lead lap. Lap 219 two battles as Newman moves around Jeff Gordon on the outside for 17th and in front of them Ambrose and Kahne fight for 8th.
Lap 223 Ambrose closes in on Earnhardt Jr. for 7th, to take the position. Lap 224 Biffle and Allmendinger race each other for 12th. Lap 225 we see the top ten drivers as Kyle Busch leading by ¾’s of a second over Kurt Busch then 1 second to 3rd place Reutimann, 3.3 seconds to 4th place Stewart, 3.8 seconds to 5th place Kenseth, 4.5 seconds to 6th place Martin, 5.9 seconds to 7th place Ambrose, 7 seconds to 8th place Earnhardt Jr., 8.5 seconds to 9th place Harvick and 9.9 seconds to 10th place Kahne.
Lap 233 Martin is up to 5th place. Lap 234 Kurt Busch is closing in on Kyle Busch for the lead. Lap 235 movers of the race since the start is Kenseth from 30th up to 6th, Ambrose 19th to 7th, Harvick 24th to 9th, Burton 41st to 12th, Hamlin 25th to 15th, Newman 26th to 16th, Truex Jr. 27th to 17th, Waltrip 40th to 20 and Elliott 43rd to 21st.
Lap 240 (94 to go) as drivers falling back in the field have been Kahne from 2nd down to 12th, Jeff Gordon from the pole to 18th, Vickers 15th back to 26th, Sorenson 18th to 35th, Edwards 6th to 36th, Johnson 12th to 39th, Hornish Jr. 11th to 40th.
Lap 250 (84 to go) as we see the top twenty drivers being Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Reutimann, Martin, Stewart, Kenseth, Earnhardt Jr., Ambrose, Harvick, Bowyer, Burton, Kahne, Biffle, Allmendinger, Hamlin, Newman, Truex Jr., Jeff Gordon, Ragan and Logano who is one lap down in the lucky dog position.
Lap 253 as Kyle Busch leads his brother by 1.3 seconds we see lap down drivers along with Logano who would be Mears, Robby Gordon who just passed Mears for 21st, and Speed. Two laps down we see 24th place Smith followed by Sadler, Elliott, Waltrip, Andretti, Gilliland and McMurray.
Lap 259 3 laps down are Vickers, Darnell and Labonte. Sorenson is 57 laps down, Keselowski 69, Edwards 85, Montoya 85, Johnson running 39th is 124 laps down. IN the garage we see Hornish Jr., McDowell, Nemechek and Skinner. Lap 263 we are about 7 to 10 laps away from another green flag pit stop session.
Lap 264 (70 to go) Montoya is back on track. 69 to go we see Truex Jr., Robby Gordon are in for stops. 67 to go Earnhardt Jr. and Martin are in with a dozen others.
Lap 272 (62 to go) as pit stops are just about over we see Kyle Busch back in the lead with a new second place of Reutimann who is 2.5 seconds back. Lap 275 the top ten drivers are now Kyle Busch, Reutimann, Kenseth, Martin, Kurt Busch, Stewart, Earnhardt Jr., Harvick, Bowyer and Burton.
55 laps to go Kyle and Kurt Busch have led all but 18 laps of the race. 50 to go Reutimann closes the gap to leader Kyle Busch to 1.1 seconds. 49 to go Kurt Busch passes Martin to take over 4th place.
44 laps to go Jeff Gordon is the last driver on the lead lap. In Gordon’s mirror is Kyle Busch. Sorenson made a pit stop and is busted for speeding on pit road, will make a drive through penalty. 41 to go Gordon has tow car separating himself and Kyle Busch.
38 to go as Kyle Busch leads by 1.3 seconds. The team is talking about saving fuel on this run.
Lap 300 (34 to go) as the top 20 drivers are Kyle Busch, Reutimann, Kenseth, Kurt Busch, Martin, Earnhardt Jr., Stewart, Harvick, Ambrose, Biffle, Allmendinger, Hamlin, Kahne, Newman, Truex Jr. and Jeff Gordon on the lead lap followed by Ragan, Logano and Mears one lap down. Do far we have seen 12 lead changes among 5 leaders and 5 cautions for 26 laps.
31 to go Kyle Busch battles with Jeff Gordon as Gordon is doing his best to not go a lap down. Kyle Busch leads Reutimann by 2.1 seconds. 27 to go we hear that several teams are 5 laps or so short on fuel.
25 to go Kyle Busch leads by 3 seconds over Reutimann. 23 to go Truex Jr. in for a stop of two tires and fuel. 22 to go Kahne is running on 7 cylinders and may blow up soon. 21 to go Kenseth is on pit road for 2 tires and fuel.
20 to go Kurt Busch closes in on Reutimann for 2nd place. Kyle Busch leads by 4 seconds over the two drivers. 19 to go Biffle is in along with Allmendinger. 18 to go Stewart is in for 2 and fuel.
16 to go Martin is in along with Newman as they are 2 tires and fuel. 15 to go Robby Gordon is in. 13 to go 8 drivers remain on the lead lap as they are gambling for a caution.
11 to go Kyle Busch is trying to make a run to the end. 10 to go Jeff Gordon is in for a splash of fuel and out.
8 to go Earnhardt Jr. will be in for a splash and go. Earnhardt Jr. is in and out. The car dies on pit road after leaving his pit as the car starves for fuel. This will bring out the caution.
5 to go as Reutimann comes down to pit road and he is out of fuel. Earnhardt Jr. is sitting on pit road for a few extra seconds and will go 3 laps down for the error.
3 laps to go as we hear that Kyle Busch tells the team he is out of fuel. Kurt Busch takes the lead.
2 to go as Kyle gets fuel. Ambrose is out of fuel.
WHITE FLAG for Kurt Busch. Busch is light on the gas pedal to enter turn three and out of turn four…
CHECKERED FLAG for a fuel mileage victory for Kurt Busch. Busch comes back around then drives backwards to celebrate his victory. He did this at Atlanta when he won that race.
The unofficial top ten finishers were Kurt Busch, Hamlin, Kenseth, Martin, Harvick and Stewart on the lead lap followed by Bowyer, Biffle, Burton and Allmendinger a lap down as all the drivers had to get that last bit of fuel to finish their race.
The race lasted for 3 hours and 26 minutes. We saw 13 lead changes among 5 leaders. 5 cautions fell on the race that lasted for 26 laps. 6 drivers finished on the lead lap. 38 drivers remained in the race.
Johnson leaves the race 73 points in front of Mark Martin heading into Phoenix.
