NASCAR announced its intentions to incorporate a new Nationwide Series car into four points-paying events in 2010 on Friday beginning with the series' second visit to the Daytona International Speedway on July 2.
The car's gradual roll-out will continue on Aug. 14 at the Michigan International Speedway, Sept. 10 at the Richmond International Raceway and again on Oct. 15 at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
The announced event schedule for the new car in 2010 followed a meeting last July, where Nationwide Series team owners met at NASCAR's Research and Development Centern in Concord, N.C.
“There was a lot of good dialogue shared with the teams during that meeting,” said Robin Pemberton, NASCAR’s vice president of competition. “We’ve taken the time to review the information that was shared in the meeting and develop a schedule that we believe will provide the teams with the best possible opportunity to prepare for the rollout of the new car."
According to Pemberton, a variety of track types on the four-race schedule was formed to prepare teams to run the car full time in 2011.
Last week Roush Fenway Racing announced they would unveil the Mustang, Ford's model of choice for the new Nationwide Series car, on Oct. 13 at the team's headquarters in Concord, N.C.
“This is another major step as we continue to give the series a unique look and enhance the competitive racing we already have on the track,” said Joe Balash, NASCAR Nationwide Series director.
