Smith Looking for Reversal in New Furniture Row Chassis
Posted On 11/4/2009 5:10:27 PM

DENVER, Colo. (Nov. 4, 2009) -- The Talladega disappointment continues to linger, but it will dissipate according to Regan Smith, driver of the No. 78 Furniture Row Chevrolet Impala SS.

"Talladega is becoming old news," said the 26-year-old Smith. "Yes, it was a big disappointment -- we had high expectations for Talladega, but things didn't go our way. When the engine malfunctions at the big track, you're cooked, really cooked. Our total focus right now is about this week's race in Texas. Hopefully we can get back some of what we missed out on in Talladega last week."

Smith's day at the Talladega 2.66-mile oval ended prematurely due to a broken engine valve on Lap 99 of 191. He is looking for a reversal of fortune at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway, site of Sunday's Dickies 500 Sprint cup race.

"We have to avoid the hiccups," stated Smith. "Too many hiccups makes it a long day. We're due for a clean race and a strong result."

The Denver-based Sprint Cup team will roll out a new Furniture Row chassis for the Texas event.

"For the final three races, we'll continue to be in a test mode for next season," said crew chief Jay Guy. "We're going full-time racing next year and want to come out of the gate strong."

The Furniture Row team added more races to its part-time schedule this season after the team announced in late August that it will run the full 36-race Cup schedule in 2010. The team has added eight races to its original 2009 schedule of 12.

"We feel the additional races we added this year will pay dividends next season," added Guy. "Our goal is to get that automatic qualifying position by being in the top 35 in points."

After Texas, the Furniture Row team will conduct a test session at Pikes Peak International Raceway in Fountain, Colo. in preparation for the Nov. 15 Cup race at Phoenix.

"This Furniture Row team is really committed and that makes me even more eager to get the job done," said Smith. "We're working on a number of things right now and once the pieces all come together I am confident that we'll be heading in a positive direction for 2010. It's all going to be good."
