CHEVY NSCS AT TEXAS TWO: Jeff Burton Practice Quotes
Posted On 11/6/2009 7:12:48 PM

NASCAR SPRINT CUP SERIES
DICKIES 500
TEXAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY
TEAM CHEVY DRIVER PRESS CONFERENCE TRANSCRIPT
NOVEMBER 6, 2009

JEFF BURTON, NO. 31 CATERPILLAR IMPALA SS: HOW ARE YOU FEELING AFTER HITTING THE WALL IN PRACTICE? "My head hurts. Just kind of a crappy way to start off. We were really fast in race trim, I was really happy with the car. It wasn't an error or anything like that, what we think happened was something with the power steering. I just couldn't turn it. I wasn't strong enough to turn the thing. It went straight. It was like it blew a right front tire, but it didn't blow a right front. I just couldn't get it turned. It missed the soft wall and hit the back then smacked the front. It dazed me.  I'm ok. My head hurts. I actually feel a lot better than I did two hours ago."

SO YOU ARE NOT GOING TO RUN THE NATIONWIDE CAR? "I feel good enough to do it. Honestly, Richard (Childress) came to see me right after the wreck and he made the call. I'm good with that. That is just how Richard is; he wants to make sure I'm ok. What we are trying to do is build to win the championship in 2010 and are using the last four races to build to that. So, we don't want to do something that will jeopardize me and Richard made that call. He did that solely for my well being and I don't like it but I appreciate the hell out of it because he just wants to make sure that I don't do something stupid because he knows I probably would.  I'm good with all that. It is never fun to get of a car, it is not something I have much of a history of doing. Like I said, I don't like doing it, but Richard is wiser than I am and if that is what he says we need to do, that is what we need to do."

HOW IS THE BACKUP CAR? "We've got what we've got. We have worked exceptionally hard to bring better cars to the race track and through that we have been evolving. Of course, our latest generation stuff, we don't have many of them and the backup car isn't one of them. We've worked really hard on our stuff. We don't have that now, but we have what we have. It is up to us to make it work and get something out of it. This in some ways is a good test for us. This in some ways is going to make it harder than it would have, but we're a young team together and this is some adversity that will make us stronger and make us work together quicker. I hate it because we were fast and I really felt like we honestly had a chance to qualify well. In race trim, we were really really good. I hate it, but it is what it and we will make the most of it."
