NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)
NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: Toyota Camry drivers have combined for 10 wins (Kyle Busch -- Las Vegas, Bristol-1, Richmond
and Bristol-2; Denny Hamlin -- Pocono-2, Richmond-2 and Martinsville-2; David Reutimann -- Charlotte; Joey Logano -- New
Hampshire; and Brian Vickers -- Michigan-2), 40 top-fives and 71 top-10 finishes through 34 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)
races this season … With two Chase races remaining, Hamlin is eighth in the standings and Vickers is in 12th-place … Busch will
compete in all three NASCAR races this weekend and could break his NASCAR record set last year of 21 wins in a single season …
Busch currently has 19 wins in NSCS (four), Nationwide Series (eight) and Camping World Truck Series (seven) action.
DENNY HAMLIN, No. 11 FedEx Ground Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
How challenging is it having double-file restarts at Phoenix International Raceway?
"It's very challenging, but to me, I don't think it will be much different than what it has been with the double -file with the lapped
cars. There, lapped cars with new tires are just as good as what the lead lap cars are, so I think it will be very similar. Of course , I
think the bottom will be the place to be on restarts where on the old style (restarts), being on the outside, you just wanted to fight to
get down there as soon as you could. I think it's going to be the bottom line is going to be the preferred line. It's tough to say
though, when you get to the front and you're in that front row, the guy on the inside is at the mercy to the guy on the outside, it's
almost a good, vulnerable place to be on the outside."
KYLE BUSCH, No. 18 Pedigree Toyota Camry, Joe Gibbs Racing
Has this been a good year for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Sprint Cup Series?
"I wish we could have gotten a couple more Cup wins. I felt like there was some opportunity for those. It didn't work out. We've
had a great year. All the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) team drivers won in their hometown, which was pretty cool. Denny (Hamlin)
won at Richmond (Va.), Joey (Logano) won up at Loudon (N.H.) and I won at Vegas. That's pretty cool -- all in the Cup Series.
It's been a great year for Joe Gibbs Racing overall."
What has it been like to win 19 times across the top-three NASCAR series this season?
"It's been a great year for me in all three series. I've run the best I've ever run in the Truck Series and have had good trucks every
week. Jason (Ratcliff, crew chief) and the guys have done a good job with our Nationwide cars every week to come and unload like
that. Our Cup program has struggled a little bit but, unfortunately, sometimes that happens, and Joe and J.D. (Gibbs) ended up
making a change with Dave (Rogers, crew chief) coming on board. Now, the Nationwide deal is close to being done with and we
can go back to focusing more on the Cup effort and try to get ourselves to championship-caliber on that side. Somebody has to beat
that 48 (Jimmie Johnson)."
MICHAEL WALTRIP, No. 55 NAPA/Susan G. Komen Foundation Toyota Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing
Does the curved pit road at Phoenix present any challenges?
"I think it is interesting that the curviest part of pit road is the most desirable place to pit. The access road on pit road is an element
we have to consider when we have to merge back out onto the track."
NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS)
NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: Toyota Camry drivers have recorded 14 wins (Busch -- California, Texas, Richmond, Nashville-
2, New Hampshire, St. Louis, Charlotte and Texas-2; Logano -- Nashville-1, Kentucky, Chicagoland, Kansas and California; and
Ambrose -- Watkins Glen), 64 top-fives and 119 top-10 finishes through 33 NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races this season
… Busch leads the NNS point standings by 272 points over second-place Carl Edwards and can clinch the driver's title at Phoenix
by finishing seventh or better … Busch continues to extend his record for most laps led in a single season with 2,625 laps led in
2009 … Camry driver Jason Leffler will compete in both the Silver Crown and the USAC races at Phoenix on Thursday night …
Cup regulars Reed Sorenson and Reutimann will race in Braun Racing entries, while Hamlin will be in the No. 20 JGR entry this
weekend … Braun Racing has announced that Tundra driver Brian Scott will race a fourth Camry for the team in 2010.
JASON LEFFLER, No. 38 Great Clips Camry, Braun Racing
Do you like racing at Phoenix?
"If I had to pick one race track as my favorite, it would be Phoenix. I spent a lot of time out there as a kid and ran the Copper
Classic for a number of years. It's a slick, old race track and unique in that both ends are so different and the surface is so worn out.
You slide around a lot, but I like that kind of racing. The Great Clips team is riding a strong wave of momentum, with back-to-back
third-place finishes, and that is always an advantage. We ran second here in the spring, w hich adds to our confidence going into this
race. It's time to get the Great Clips Camry back to victory lane, and I can't think of a better place to do it than Phoenix."
TREVOR BAYNE, No. 99 Aaron's Camry, Michael Waltrip Racing
Have you ever raced at Phoenix?
"I've never been to Phoenix. All these tracks are first-timers. I've actually gone to Phoenix to watch a race. I thought I was going
to run there in the Camping World West Series, so I went out to watch and we ended up not racing it. I've been out there to watch,
but we'll have to figure out the track when we get there. I haven't done anything really to prepare for Phoenix. You have to go one
week at a time. We had to focus on Texas and now we're focused on Phoenix."
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS)
NEWS, NOTES & NUMBERS: In 23 NCWTS races in 2009, Toyota Tundra drivers have combined for 14 wins (Bodine --
Daytona and Texas; Busch -- California, Atlanta, Bristol, Chicagoland, New Hampshire, Talladega and Texas-2; Mike Skinner --
Kansas, Iowa and Gateway; Scott -- Dover; and Timothy Peters -- Martinsville-2), 60 top-fives and 124 top-10 finishes … The 14
victories represent the most by Tundra drivers during a single NCWTS season … Before this year, the most Toyota NCWTS wins in
a single season had been 13 (2007 and 2008) … Busch has been victorious the last five times he's raced the Billy Ballew
Motorsports' No. 51 Miccosukee Resort Tundra (Bristol, Chicagoland, New Hampshire, Talladega and Texas) … Mike Bliss will
race the No. 25 HT Motorsports Tundra this weekend in Phoenix, along with continuing his duties in the NNS for CJM Racing.
BRIAN SCOTT, No. 16 Albertsons Toyota Tundra, Xpress Motorsports
What do you think about racing at Phoenix?
"Phoenix was an exciting race in 2008. We ran up front battling for the top spot and we ran second for the longest time. It got
interesting right at the start. I think Ron Hornaday, Jr. and Kyle Busch got together coming off of turn four on the first lap and we
narrowly missed that. Phoenix proved to be a big shakeup in the championship points standings because both Hornaday and
(Johnny) Benson had their problems. We were able to run good and take advantage of other teams' misfortune. We ran up front
and stayed out of the wrecks and ended up getting a top-five finish out of it. It was my first top-five in the NASCAR Camping
World Truck Series and it was the first top-five I had with Jeff Hensley (crew chief)."
MIKE BLISS, No. 25 HT Motorsports Toyota Tundra, HT Motorsports
Are you excited to be back racing in the Truck Series again at Phoenix?
"Phoenix (International Raceway) always proves to put on a good show in the Truck Series. Even though it is a short track, Phoenix
gives you plenty of room to pass and maneuver down the straight-aways. It's easy to get caught up in someone else's mess at PIR,
but it actually gives you more time to react there than the other short tracks on the series. I have a lot of fun racing in Phoenix so I
am looking forward to racing there for HT Motorsports."
