Roush Fenway Racing rookie Chris Buescher scored his 11th top-10 finish of the season in Saturday night’s NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Kentucky Motor Speedway. It was Buescher’s second career NASCAR start at Kentucky and it marked his fourth top-10 finish in the last six races.
Handling woes continued, but with fresher tires Biffle was able to make some ground on the multiple restarts that ensued in the closing laps. By the time the checkered flag fell Biffle crossed the finish 16th, moving up to 13th in the Chase standings with one race remaining before the first four cars are eliminated from moving to the second round.
“I blew a left front tire,” Stenhouse said afterwards. “We were all racing really hard on that restart. Everybody was bouncing off each other. I don’t know who hit my left-front, but it got a fender rub and just blew the tire going down front straightaway. I was trying to get my EcoPower Re-Refined Oil Ford slowed down as much as I could but it wouldn’t turn. We had a top-15 car but just wasn’t our day.”
In an exciting green-white-checkered ending to the Sylvania 300 NASCAR Sprint Cup race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway (NHMS), Rookie-of-the-Year contender, Kyle Larson, made another top showing with a runner-up finish in his No. 42 Target Chevrolet SS.
This is my home race track, the coolest place to win for me. I could never pick a better race track to win. I watched my first Cup race here when I was five and I won that other Cup race here, but I just felt like I had to win one the right way here, and this means so much.
“The guys didn’t quit on me today and I’m driving my heart out,” said Truex. “Though we made good adjustments today and came through at the end, we struggled for most of the weekend and need to work out some issues. But the guys worked hard and kept on making the car better.”
Kyle Busch (eighth), who is one of 16 drivers in the Chase playoff, was the highest-finishing Toyota driver in Sunday afternoon's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
KYLE LARSON, NO. 42 TARGET CHEVROLET SS – FINISHED 2ND - THIS CAR CAN'T HAVE A WHOLE LOT OF FUEL LEFT IN IT, TALK ABOUT YOUR RUN: "It was a really good race for us. Our Target Chevy wasn't even a top-15 car the first 100 laps, and Shine (Chris Heroy) and everybody on this Target team did a great job to get me in the game.
How does it sound to be going to be going to the next round? “It feels good to go into the next one. We’ve got to keep doing what we’re doing though. We’ve got to keep our eye on the prize and think about the big trophy at the end.”
