:? Congratulations to NASCAR for the safety factors they have built into Sprint Cup cars.
I was very glad to see Newman & Martin be able to walk away from their accidents. BUT - I question the reduction in restrictor plates. I have always enjoyed Talladega races for the
continous action of constant lead changes and drivers moving from front to back of the train and the back to the front. The excitement did not seem to be there today. Perhaps
I missed something, but to me the first 168 laps were just driving around the track. I have always looked for more at Talladega.

Man, you're right there! It can't be a race if the racers are gonna get penalized for racing! That was the worst I've seen at ANY track (Well, maybe Indy last year, but...) They'll try speed limits next!

Adding more catch fencing, and restricting the engines isn't the way to tame Talladega. As I said in another post, they need to separate the doers from the watchers. Namely, raise the wall so no car can get over it...EVER! Put up fencing so that parts of cars can't leave the track either. And the 'BIG ONE"...make these cars as aerodynamic backwards as forwards.

The wing needs to be modified, it meets the air first. It is a 6" x36" up-flinging piece of metal and needs to have the backside of it angled to push the car DOWN when backwards! Roof flaps the size of the roof! They can be used as an access, ala 2001 design, in an emergency. How about having the hood hinged in the front? there's another foil to keep the cars down.

Talladega has always been too big for its britches. cars can go 250-275mph, because of the banking. There's nothing on the track to cause the cars to slow down. Maybe it's time to lower the displacement again. They're getting 800HP out of 358cid. They only only had 650-700HP in 427cid., back in the King's day. Hey! Most cars on the road today are FWD 4-bangers. Return to 'Stock cars'?

Another camp is saying to lower the banking, but wouldn't that just make another Daytona? They'd still run restrictors, so what's the point? They've got to admit that there's gonna be wrecks...Talladega, and most tracks, can't seem to get past them. They've got the cars pretty safe, thou, without Happy's hood catching the #39, Ryan might've been in worse shape in that wreck.

I'd like to see a race of 'all-out" speed. Take the plates off, move the stands back, or even have TV only, with the track getting a piece of the revenue. The infield is pretty safe, so there's room to put more revelers. It'll be a safer race if they let these guys go at, because the ones who cause the wrecks won't take out 6 who were next to them. the racers know how to race with each other, but they can't race with 6 cars at once.

I read another solution on http://www.rowdy.com/content/profile/asset_detail/35317 that might make NASCAR racing palatable. Reduce the downforce! Take the wing and the splitter off. Make the cars as driveable as the ones we have. Then, they can remove the plates, and let the drivers drive! We'll see if they are as good at driving as they keep telling us.

I know that the drivers would moan, fer sure. But at least the race will be a race! I'm all for it.
