Clorox is back with Labonte and JTG Daugherty Racing Team at Kansas Speedway

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (June 1, 2011) – – A longstanding team partner of JTG Daugherty Racing, Clorox® launched their first of six primary races at Phoenix International Raceway in February. Clorox returns as a prominent sponsor of Bobby Labonte’s No. 47 Toyota Camry at the 1.5-mile Kansas Speedway tri-oval for the STP 400 on Sunday, June 5th.

During the month of June, Clorox is also the primary sponsor for the 2000 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion at Pocono Raceway (June) and Infineon Raceway, which is considered a home track for The Clorox Company that is headquartered in Oakland, Calif.

“We promoted grilling with Kingsford Charcoal Memorial Day weekend and now we are encouraging fans to use Clorox brands as we race at Kansas Speedway this weekend,” Labonte said. “They are sponsoring our Toyota Camry for three of our four races in the month of June. Clorox has always been a household brand of ours and it’s good to have them on board at Kansas.”

With 10 starts at Kansas Speedway, Labonte’s best finish is 17th twice with Joe Gibbs Racing and Petty Enterprises. Four of those 10 races, he was taken out of contention by the way of accidents. Last season driving for Phoenix Racing, he was faced with a transmission problem (41st). A change of luck is what Labonte hopes is in store to add to his 21 victories, 115 top-fives and 200 top-10 finishes as he competes in the 13th race of the year.

“I have had some tough luck at Kansas, but I do really like the place,” Labonte said. “It’s just one of the neater places that we go to on the circuit. It is very fan-friendly and a great place for fans to watch a race. It has multiple grooves. It’s probably getting close to where it will have to be repaved before too long. There are seams in each grove that makes it slippery. I was watching the most recent Cup race there on TV the other day. Kasey Kahne and a couple of guys got in it and spun around.”

For Kansas, crew chief Frank Kerr and the JTG Daugherty Racing team start fresh with a brand new chassis for the 267-lap event.

“This is a new car for us,” Kerr said. “Kansas is more of a handling track and we have a different tire this time. Last year, we had a great car until we ran into an ignition problem.”

The next several days are extremely busy for Labonte. As a reminder for fans, Labonte’s taking donations at Food Lion, 10102 South Main Street, Archdale, N.C. and loading everything on an Old Dominion Freight Line trailer to help the tornado victims of eastern North Carolina affected by the storms of April 16 from 5 to 7 p.m. ET.

“Thanks to all of our fans in advance, Food Lion and Old Dominion for all their support as we collect items today in Archdale,” Labonte said.

On Thursday, June 2nd, Labonte and David Reutimann are hosting collections for the tornado victims of Joplin, Mo. at the Aaron’s store at 12108 Shawnee Mission Parkway in Shawnee Kansasfrom 6-8 p.m. Martin Truex Jr. will do the same 6-8 p.m. at the Bass Pro Shops at 12051 Bass Pro Drive in Olathe Kansas. Michael Waltrip will join Labonte and Reutimann at the Aaron’s store 6-6:45 p.m. before joining Truex from 7:15-8 p.m. at Bass Pro.

Fans can meet, take pictures and collect autographs from the drivers at both sites in return for donations of canned foods, blankets, and toiletry items that will be transported to Joplin on Friday. The first 200 donations at the Olathe Bass Pro Shops will receive a No. 56 diecast racecar while the first 200 donations at the Aaron’s store will receive a nine-inch “Lucky Dog” stuffed animal.

“JTG Daugherty Racing has a great partnership with Michael Waltrip Racing and we’re looking forward to being at the Aaron’s store with David Reutimann to help the folks as much as we can in Joplin, Mo.,” Labonte said. “Michael Waltrip Racing has done a great job in a short amount of time to pull all of this together. We hope to see you there.”

Live coverage of the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway on Sunday begins at 1 p.m. ET on FOX. MRN Radio will also carry the event.
