Concord, NC (May 20, 2012)– Surviving through a caution-ridden 200 miles of NASCAR Camping World Truck Series racing at Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday night, Dakoda Armstrong picked his way through traffic to grab a 13th place finish. After starting the N.C. Education Lottery 200 from the 24th position, the Sunoco Rookie of the Year Contender began his climb forward shortly after halfway with the help of pit strategy and improvements made to the handling of the No. 98 EverFi Toyota Tundra.

Battling tight conditions throughout both practice sessions on Friday morning, crew chief Dan Stillman made calls to free up the EverFi machine prior to qualifying. The changes helped Armstrong pick up nearly two tenths of a second on his qualifying run, placing him 24th for the start of the race.

Stillman made strategic calls to bring Armstrong to pit road off sequence from the leaders, helping him make his way into the top-15 at the halfway point. This strategy also left the team with an extra set of fresh tires in the closing laps of the race, giving the Indiana native ammunition to gain seven spots in the last eight laps of green flag racing.

“The restarts and traffic tonight were really tough,” Armstrong explained. “It was nearly impossible to pass on the inside; if there was a truck above you, they just took all of the downforce away and you couldn’t move ahead.

“Dan Stillman made great calls in the pits all night to gain us some positions and he made the right call to come in for fresh tires on that second to last caution. We could’ve easily had a top-10 finish in our EverFi Tundra tonight if it just would’ve stayed green until the end.”

“I think we learned a lot tonight and Dakoda did a great job keeping the fenders on it. We made gains on the truck from what we unloaded with and were able to take advantage of the four fresh tires we had at the end,” Stillman added.

Armstrong moved up once again this week in the NCWTS driver point standings, climbing into the 16th spot. The ThorSport Racing teams will resume competition at Dover International Speedway on Friday, June 1st, 2012 for the Lucas Oil 200.
