RED HORSE TAKES OVER KENTUCKY: It’s a three-for-one spectacle at Kentucky Speedway in June as all three of NASCAR’s premier series hit the Sparta, KY area. The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will kick off the festivities on a special Thursday night edition with 150 laps of beating and banging. Timothy Peters and his No. 17 Red Horse Racing team will be there, looking to regain the top spot in the Truck Series driver’s point’s standings. Currently sitting second, only five markers out of the lead, Peters is aiming to capture his seventh top-10 finish of the season.
With seven starts, one top-five and two top-10 finishes at the track, Peters’ team lead by crew chief Butch Hylton is anxious to continue this year’s success on the their 1.5-mile program. The team collected a second-place finish at Kansas Speedway, the highest finishing position for the team on this type of track.
KEYS TO CONSISTENCY: Peters and his No. 17 team have been atop the Truck Series leader board all season long. After seven series races, Peters holds the highest average finishing position with a 6.1. He is one of five drivers that have completed all 1174 laps raced thus far. With an average 5.6 average middle of the race position, Peters is just getting geared up for the Truck Series Summer stretch.
CHASSIS HISTORY: The No. 17 team will unload Chassis No. 073 for the Thursday night special at Kentucky Speedway. This chassis made it’s on track debut at Kansas Speedway on April 21st. It was at the 1.5-mile track where Peters scored a second-place finish, after a 10th-place qualifying effort.
TOYOTA PITPASS: Wondering where you might be able to meet Timothy Peters this weekend at Kentucky Speedway? Peters alongside teammate Todd Bodine, will join a lineup of Truck Series drivers on Thursday, June 28th from 3:00-3:30 p.m. for an autograph session at Toyota Pitpass display in the Vendor Midway at the Speedway.
PREVIOUS RACE RECAP: The Truck Series last raced in Fort Worth, Texas on Friday June 8th for the WinStar World Casino 400 at Texas Motor Speedway. Peters, entered the seventh Truck Series race of the year second in driver’s point standings. With a hard fought and well earned, eleventh-place finish at the 1.5-mile track, Peters was able to hold onto the second-place position, only five markers out of the lead.

You said after Texas, ‘if this is our worst place finish (11th) all year, they better watch out’. How do you feel heading into Kentucky after the challenge you faced at Texas?
“I’m looking forward to Kentucky. I’ve always done well there. Obviously, we didn’t have result we wanted from Texas, but it could’ve been worse. The couple days we spent there, we were okay, not great. I am very confident and comfortable with everything that everyone at Red Horse prepares and puts underneath me. I’m looking forward to picking up and to be back where we belong at Kentucky.”
You have made it well known that the team went to work over the off season on the 1.5-mile program. With your success so far this season, does this make you more excited to go to these types of tracks?
“Oh, yes. I think we have exceeded our 1.5-mile program this year compared to last year. Every time we race at one of the tracks, we keep getting better. I’m really looking forward to these tracks. As a company, we have won at every track at other sizes except a 1.5-mile. And, I think this year we are going to do it.”
